Dear Betty,
Thank you for opening my eyes and exposing so many others to the sweet eroticism of kink.  You helped bring it to public light and your pinups and burlesque art form made it very appealing.  For many people, you are our first exposure to the world of kink and you have served as our icon . . .  our ambassador.  You are personally responsible for launching so many people down a path that has a healthy attitude towards sex, kink and fantasy.

I watched your last interview and was touched when you said you didn’t want to capitalize on your name or image and continue public appearances.  You wanted to be remembered for what you did, when you did it instead of dragging it out.  I am glad your wishes have been granted and you have my deepest respect.

On behalf of everyone you have touched with your charm and on behalf of all the lives you have influenced, thank you.

You Eternal Fan,
Kalon Eric

Thanks . . . edit expired, too late to fix it now.  [sm=sigh.gif]

(that's what I get for looking at her tits instead of how to spell her name!)

RS - I think you wrote a lovely tribute for Bettie.  :)

I have always found her an inspiration to myself and how she has touched so many lives in a positive way.

Thank you Bettie for breaking the boundaries and the rules!

That's okay... most of us got that wrong after she came back into popularity. Which was... I think... the mid 1980's. That was when Dave Stevens used her as an ongoing character in his comic book, "The Rocketeer" (later made into a Disney movie, although they cleaned up Bettie's character for Jennifer Conolly.) Everyone thought it was "Betty"... (too many "Archie" comics, I guess) It wasn't until "The Bettie Pages" came out several years later that we all got the correction on it.

I remember her from my Dad's stack of early Playboys... She was a centerfold in, again I think, the third issue? But I didn't come across her fetish stuff until the 1980's. Still, I think she DID make me prefer black haired women, like herself, or Hyapatia Lee, or asian girls, or the woman who played the Egyptian Queen in "The Ten Commandments"... the black hair and bangs is just a winning combo!

Bettie Page, along with Blaze Starr, are the first 'adult' icons I can remember; and, I knew Blaze after her burlesque career(And hope she remains in good health and happiness for many, many more years).  The photos I saw of Bettie appeared to capture innocent joy and powerful sexuality; a gorgeous combination.  I am saddened to hear that she has passed but thank Resident Sadist for sharing the news.

I can see how Bettie was an icon to many across the spectrum of kink and BDSM.

She's certainly influenced me.  The lush and luscious physical aspects aside, her apparent playful sensuality is something I've always found appealing, and one of the strongest features I look for in a relationship.  Not for me the Bitch Goddess, or the Humiliatrix, etc, though more power to those who do enjoy those types.  Bettie, as a symbol, has always been to me the velvet glove, the epitome of the sensual hedonist.  Innocently seductive, languid but vivacious, and beautifully balanced in thought and deed.  Of course, I'm speaking of her in a symbolic sense, as I truly have no idea of the lady behind the pictures, beyond what bits get flung around in conversations and the media.

She's always struck me as a near-balanced switch, based on her many, many pictures.  You can see her holding dominant poses and submissive ones, displaying something akin to shock when being spanked, or a gorgeous sense of whimsy when posing in seemingly haphazard but calculated ways.  She never seems aloof, always seems involved, in every shot.

It's this view of her, this picture in my head of what that woman represents to me, that I'll be remembering, and in that memory, making ageless.

Huge Betty fan.  Yes she sparked my interest.  I dont think she is the model of kink. I think she did change the attitudes of people when it comes to kink... tons of photo evidence with that. She was the little girl next door with a whip in her hands and no matter what she had this huge shit eating grin on her face.  I feel she is the ultimate example of the twists and turns that life takes people on.  She was used so badly by so many and was so alone yet her views on the world around her helped make the porn industry what it is today (for good or bad).  She actually kind of in her own way faught for the right for a woman to own her own body and do with it as she pleases.

Goddess Bless Bettie (and she ALSO used Betty, for those snots that like to "correct" other people)
She, and Irving Klaw took me through puberty and I am sure had a major influence on my life both vanilla and fetish.

Yes she was a bdsm icon but sadly not a sub or Dominant in RL so sadly she was just another model

Have you seen interviews?  She knew her modeling had an effect on us.

BondageBarbieX -> RE: -=Good bye Betty Page, Was She the Icon of Kink?=- (12/29/2008 10:32:03 PM)

She never wielded a whip besides in front of a camera or took a spanking ,modeling does not mean you actually do...I take lots of pics that are not something I do outside of  a camera lens like sucking a pacifier and drinking from a baby bottle  etc, etc! The amazing thing was that she only modeled for 7 years before she stopped and is a legend. She new how to work it! ...and I have heard her voice in tv  interviews but I do not think anyone has 'seen' her in one.

GreedyTop -> RE: -=Good bye Betty Page, Was She the Icon of Kink?=- (12/29/2008 10:33:53 PM)

No, she chose not to be seen in her later years..

VanessaChaland -> RE: -=Good bye Betty Page, Was She the Icon of Kink?=- (12/30/2008 2:17:32 AM)

She (on a as-well-is-known personal level) was a gorgeous woman who looked good in fetish gear as a hired model.

Her images sparked a great deal of interest and a cult following.

I don't think one had anything to do with the other. I mean think of any actor that plays a well known gay/lesbian on TV/Cinema who is straight in real life. Or the other way around. Rock Hudson for example.

Taboo4Two -> RE: -=Good bye Betty Page, Was She the Icon of Kink?=- (12/31/2008 5:54:16 AM)

What was unique about Bettie's BDSM modeling was her live and let live attitude towards it. While Estes Kefauver scared Irving Klaw enough to get him to destroy most of the edgier pictures of her, Bettie herself was always proud of her modeling but never saw it as anything more than role play. Much of her best pin-up work was done in Florida and shot by Bunny Yeager without any BDSM influence at all.

I loved Bettie's look just as I do Dita Von Teese today.

Bettie Page will live on in her photos for generations to come. For that I am thankful.
