$100 goes a long way when helping others

Economy's down, unemployment's up...but so long as we have hearts we can help each other.

Merry Christmas, folks.

what a wonderful world it could be if this were the norm, rather than the extraordinary.  each one of us can make a difference in the lives of those around us, and that can spread like ripples in a pond if we're only willing to make the effort.

Thanks CL for posting that article and expressing such sentiments, I agree entirely.

To me the best way of recovering an economy is by starting at the very bottom of society, investing there and working your way up, not by investing in people at the very top, the CEOs.

The imperative 'get a job' mantra should be replaced by two questions 'What do you need?' and 'What do you want to do in life?', listening to the answers and helping those people along that path. I see no sense in just giving people money just because they're not working, nor in keeping them without places to live or adequate healthcare, because the whole of society suffers as a result.

Consider that in a little over 10 years from now the people of pensionable age, i.e. over 60 will exceed the working population. Unless you're putting a sizeable chunk of your income away for retirement you're going to wind up on a state pension.

What is the most important issue here? The ability to pay? The ability to do? Surely this should be all superceded by the ability to be?

I feel the emphasis should be on cooperation rather than competition, with emphasis on the home, the community and society. People need each other, they also need to be healthy, educated and occupied, whether it be through employment or self-employment.

For too long the emphasis has been on business, on the difference between have and have not. I feel there needs to be investment also in culture, sport and entertainment and this needs to be a precursor to business. I give the Irish economy as the most obvious example.

I also feel that a society which has a stable economy is a more open and tolerant society. Whichever way you look at it, people matter.

*kicks soapbox away*

Be well everyone and enjoy the holidays, whoever you are, wherever you are, whatever you're doing.

I was the recipient of a good deed this season.  I feel very blessed.  I am now doing what I can to pay it forward, because one good turn deserves another.

I give to charities year round such as homeless shelters and the Red Cross because the need is year round.

While I was raising my daughter, we were very poor.  We were the recipients of many kind deeds.  I told one woman how badly I felt about taking from her when I had nothing to give her in return.  She told me that I would eventually have something to give to someone else.  I learned that I could donate my time when I had nothing else to give.

In more recent years, I've had more & I am able to give to folks who have less.  I love this story & I give kudos to the pastor who is teaching his congregation what it feels like to give.

Edited to change "mammy" to "many".  [8D]

I give when I can.  I get scolded all the time by friends because I am quick to give a few bucks to homeless people.  I have gave money to one old drunk at my neighborhood grocery store so many times, that I know him by name.  He still gives me the same story about running out of gas everytime I see him.  I know what he's doing with the money, but I can't seem to say no.

Can you spot me 10 thousand, see my daughter has recently become ill, and while we do have insurance the insurance doesn't cover the plane trip nor hotel and food required for us to accompany her. I'm currently working 3 jobs, and sleep only 6 hours a night. I'm at my wits end and this small kind act would mean everything to us. I would use my credit card but they've recently reduced my limit even though we've never had a late payment.

Dear sir, if you could just help this one time, you'd be forever in our hearts.

If I can't find someone to help us, I fear my only option will be to chop my poor daughter up, and use her for meat, as she'll be dead in 6 months anyway, if she can't get the treatment, and it would be an obvious waste of 60 pounds of prime meat (she can't move much so it should be very tender).

I would prefer to save her, but I can't see how to come up with 10 K, and if she would die even after the treatment, I'd make sure you'd get any of her bits and pieces you desired, and if she does live I'd make her fuck you, once a year every year until you passed away, or you could have her as a full time slave for an additional 50 thousand.

I do really need her to survive as my retirement was centered around whoring her out in a couple years and use that income to supplement our retirement income. Now, I may have to find drug addicted women and force them into prostitution. Obviously, it would be preferable to use my own flesh and blood for this purpose as she's been trained, and would be a great and eager whore without needing drugs to control her.

Sincerely Distressed and in need of a kind samaritan, NTUY.

I'm afraid I will have to decline dear sir.  I find your story does not meet my standards for giving.  Right not there are desperate, needy people in need of a bottle of Night Train or MD 20/20.  I'm afraid that my resources are retained for those people as they are the most neediest of souls.
