this post may be a little premature, but i will go ahead anyway

i have pain on my entire right side, from head to toe, which hurts more with pressure and temperature changes and i am seeing a doctor about it, tests to follow this week including 7 MRI's and an EEG because i have had something that looks like siezures...and i finally have a doctor that believes me that i am not just faking it and he has given me a nerve med that seems to help even though i have not gotten up to full strength...anyway my questions...

does anyone have experience with the subject...nerve pain and playing?
would it be safe to do intense sensation play (as opposed to impact play) on just my left side?
is it possible to flog and/or whip just one side of the body?
if this is indeed a lifelong disease, should i just give up bdsm and stick to D/s or is there someone with experience in such a thing?

I know this is asking a lot of people but i am looking for personal experiences not a prognosis...

Hello There,
About two months ago I was accidnetally struck on my hip bone on my back. I was wiggeling so it was not the top's fault, but rather mine for moving just before the blow struck.
I have indeed had nerve problems from the injury. It started as a siatic (sp?) nerve sensation. Over time it has decreased to just the area where I was struck hurting. Overall it's a very slow healing process.

I also have a friend who just told me it seems lately she is not tolerating the intesity in her scenes like she use to. She's a serious masochist who loves painful play usually. Last week she also said during play it was so intense she had some kind of seisure. Her Dom stopped instantly, but she laid on the floor over a 1/2hr before she'd recovered enough to get up. So I'd say yes, you could have seisures as she's in good health, she's a nurse, and she said it happened to her.

I usually take 7-10 days to recover fully from heavy impact play. I do not play again till I've healed up from the last time. I get very impatient as I love to play, but Master makes me wait till I'm all better first.

I'd say maybe you should avoid impact play and focus on other things till you doctors work your problem out.

honestly, untill a direct answer from the medical field is given, I would stay away from any play unless very light. If not sure of problem and where it came form, no need to aggrevate it further with play...not a dototr...but my two cents

i'm not a practicing physician, so i'd not dare offer any prognosis, but i'd imagine that your doctor is seeking a diagnosis and prognosis with the tests. you may indeed have some central nervous system damage (i.e. damage of some sort to nerve cell body, which is resulting in possible seizure like activity) which is treated FAR differently than peripheral (which the sciatic nerve is considered) nerve problems. as your physician has also put you on some medication (do you know what it is called, and if it is for the pain or the seizures?), it seems he's in good control at this point of trying to reduce your symptoms while trying to find out the cause of them.

if it were me, i'd not consider any impact or such to my body until the doctor was finished running all of the tests and had some answers. at that point, i'd be seeking information on any necessary alterations in play, etc. if they were needed. so many things are possible that considering giving up is as premature as is wanting to play before you know what you might be doing to your body.

they are giving me neruontin (working up to 900mg) and lamictal (working up to 200mg), for multiple symptoms including nerve pain, siezures and bipolar...haven't gotten up to a full dose of either, but they seem to be helping, at least part of the time...if not working full time by the next time i go to the doc, i will ask if i can take twice a day, for now just once a day

Does this happen with bondage if so depends were the ropes are going across for you have certain pressure point that could make your wrist or arms to go numb if you use rope. Until you see a doctor I would do no play at all until you find out what is going on for seizures is very serious. You could have something that is going on that if you have a seizures while tied up it could cause more Damage. Just be patient wait to see what the Doctors says and be honest with them. They need to know your medical history so they can determine what is going on. Just be careful and do not play for a while until you know what is going on medically. Hoosierscorpio

while i'm not the OP, i do know that her symptoms are central nervous system based (i.e. brain) and not the result of peripheral nerve pressure induced parasthesia (numbness & tingling). she's on medication and having tests to determine the cause of the one sided symptoms. while i've a good idea of the cause, i'm not practicing medicine on anyone i've not seen. that she has decided to wait for the results of her tests is a very smart thing.
