eponastar -> Rattan Vs. Fiberglass (12/26/2008 4:28:01 PM)

  Hello all!

I am getting ready to purchase my first cane. I have used them before but am wondering what everyone's opinion is on fiberglass cane's vs, rattan canes. How do they handle? And to the submissives... how do they feel?

Excited about the feedback! (And the impending purchase, hooray Christmas money!)

From a Dom standpoint Fiberglass is predictable, consistant, snappy and DEAD. It has no life to it as it never did.
Rattan is alive, even better is a freshly cut cane of rosewood..

It may not bother you or the bottom but in my opinion there is a huge difference in energys and energy transfers.

I would suggest rattan instead of fiberglass.

The good thing about rattan is that if it ever does break it does not create splinters or shards, which is why in the SCA they use rattan to fashion weapons.

Fiberglass, is nasty when it breaks because it is made of epoxy and glass fiber which is sanded. Fiberglass also has a tendency to get hairline fractures when its cold. I personally would not recommend it.

Bamboo canes are nice. As are escrima sticks (made of layers of paper and lacquer, sanded down)= used in Arnis
