Nicotine patches, when removed,  seem to leave behind a residue that outlines where the patch was placed on the body. After awhile, it resembles a very sloppy patchwork quilt.

What (other than a steel brush) makes this stuff come off??

Comes right off with a little alcohol on a washcloth.

Alcohol or Baby Oil Either one works well for the removal of this. I suggest Baby Oil or Mineral Oil if you are worried about Dry Skin.

Oh and my favorite answer wear it somewhere you don't get that dirty, However I will tell you I got quite a rush from wearing them on the back of my neck.

By accident I found that my facial toner worked quite nicely .. again, that's the alcohol in there, so either way..

Otherwise, I did find that I actually had a *reaction* to the goop on the patch. I got the residue off, but I had lovely red rashy squares....

Ya know how I ultimately quit.. 6 yrs. ago?  I switched to smoking these Quest cigarettes.. they have lower nicotine. Then the next ones have hardly any nicotine.. and the last ones have no traceable nicotine.  And it's weird.. all of a sudden I'd realize it was like 7pm and I hadn't had a cigarette all day.  Same thing with my mother, and she smoked for over 40 years.

Good luck ;-)

i quit smoking back in Aug.. and the patches are what i used as well..

Never had too much of a problem with the glue.. but, like someone else said.. i ended up with lil red patches of rashy itchy and sore skin. Arms were less inclined to have the reaction.. unless it was applied to the soft undersides.. torso area really had bad reactions.

In the end.. i came to a point where i just KNEW i didnt need to use the patches anymore, and so stopped at that point.. never having gone into the final two weeks of the lowest strength. I actually had one or two patches left of the mid strength level..and all of the lowest strength.. leftover.

What i did sooooooo love about the patches... was how.. about in day four or five.. i started having very lucid dreams.. i LOVED that..and miss it.

Sooo... SteelofUtah.. what was so great about having the patch on the back of your neck?.. The nicotine rush.. or lucid dreaming?

My skin is really sensitive, which is weird since I can withstand a good whipping. The nicotine patches with their adhesive caused my skin to become very irritated and itchy to the point where scratched myself to bleeding.
Even sun block is a no go for me for much the same reason.

You know I never put the two together but I did have vivid and weird ass dreams.

Actually what I was refering to was when I would try to sneak a Cig while wering one on the bck of my neck and get so light headed I had to sit down.

Yeah eventually the patch just didn't work for me but I know it worked for many others but due to my addiction I got off on the extra HIgh from wearing a Patch and Smoking so I actually smoked more while wearing the Patch.

I'm in agreement about the vivid dreams - I will never wear one to bed again. The last one was a month ago and I can STILL describe it in precise detail. Full living color and sound effects and everything. I was exhausted when I got up the next morning.. not to mention a bit peeved about events that took place IN the dream.

Steel - I've not had a rush but it does tend to make my joints hurt a wee bit. Just means I have to make sure I dont wear one on my flogging arm ;)

Im like this, the skin all swells up and goes red, I actually think its an allergy rather than just sensitive skin though.

Ironically, a lot of people never realize they are allergic to some adhesives until they've been in a situation to wear patch related meds or long term bandages.  For some, it might only come up with certain products (due to particular ingredients.)  Its actually really common, but is either overlooked or not often talked about.

I was advised by the smoking cessation nurse to open the patch fully and leave for ten mins to reduce the alcohol content in the patch, which causes most of the itchiness. She also advised that if the patch was itching to place my hand over it for a few minutes........worked for me.
