The same people trashing the cops are the same people who scrream the loudest when something happens to their stuff.
Not every cop on the street is "bad" or "out to get you".
Trash them all you want without them your screwed.

Exactly what I was thinking, Sci. It's amazing to me that the majority seems to be against the cops.  Like I stated in a previous post, cops are human, they make mistakes. Don't judge the whole lot by the actions of a few.  Sure, there's a bit of a power trip but that goes for almost anyone in Public Safety. Firefighter's, EMS included.
I picked up a pt. at the jail once who had been beaten earlier by cops/I let the cops know I was there for the patient & will damn well take my time assessing him. Now, did that sour me on ALL the cops? NO....because I know that in dealings w/other patients they were decent human beings.

As the saying goes, when seconds count, the police are minutes away. They show up just in time to perform the body count and file a report. Handy when it comes time to file the life insurance claim, but not much good otherwise.

we live dead center between Nowhere and Nothing...back country roads, windy, snow covered in the winter...you get my point. There have been several times we had to call for help: medical emergencies, a break in, and a very frightening tractor accident.

The response time was lightening fast and each situation was handled as well as humanly possible.

good heavens...generalize much? On another thread you made a slaming generalization about all teachers...and now this?

I cannot help but wonder what it is that makes you say this, other than the attitude you give to the police is the attitude you will get in return.

Well, violence sucks, but I'm glad to see that people are taking to the streets over this: the police should be held responsible for the actions of one of its representatives. Note: the cop responsible swiftly resigned.

When will there be a police to police the police? An independent body that protects the citizens, and not the professional and political interests of the police force?

taking to the streets and destroying their own neighborhoods is not something to be thankful for!  rioting and taking to the streets is always wrong no matter the reason!

Hasn't every state their own variant of the IAB?

What do you suggest people do? That they just sit back and take this crap? For how much longer do you suggest the apathy remains? I thought you were all for telling the state where to stick it.

Edited, to tone down the anarchic slant  .

I'm not so sure about that. As Thomas Jefferson opined to James Madison, "a little rebellion now and then is a good thing."

destroying property is not the answer.   suppose that was your vehicle, home and or business set afire?
the police officer has lost his job and i am confident he will be facing criminal charges if probable cause and the elements of a crime applies in this case.

i am for total change  in the political system, but i am not an anarchicist.

so are you saying if that was your home and or property set afire by the riots, you would shoot the people setting the fire?

I see we have different philosophies: property matters jackshit to me (and to a host of others, by the looks of things), when it comes to protesting against fascism. And guess what? It's how this nation was created: by destroying the property of others.

It appears that he believes himself to be the only one qualified enough to shoot people randomly.

As far as riots go, there's no point in pitching a fit about this incident, as the officer is already facing charges. Tipping over cars and stealing TV's really isn't going to do anything productive.

i believe we give the system a chance to work before rioting.  if the officer is found guilty of committing the crime he shall be punished.  if this crime goes unpunished then we have a whole different scenario.

Possessing a gun does nothing to make man equal, it just ups the ante a little. A person cannot be all places at all times and vengeance perpetuates yet more violence. It may provide instant gratification/perceived retribution, but it's going to take a lifetime to rid and that lifetime may end rather prematurely.

Punishing the stupid cop isn't going to bring the dead man back to life. I completely understand that people are so fucking fed up with the abuse of power of the police and other representatives of the state, that they would conduct a riot. It's sad, but authorities frequently ignore petitions and other forms of peaceful protest, and pay a lot of attention to violence. Gandhi's success was exceptional.

obviously you have no faith in the system as it stands.  no use arguing the point.  i truly believe that there are bad cops, but the good cops outweigh them, i know this firsthand.  i am glad that the system is going to work in this case.  as in a post above stated, the cop lost his job and he is being charged with the crime.  suppose everytime a cop is shot or killed in the line of duty his dept and family rioted in the streets for justice?  because that cop killer going to prison is not going to bring that dead cop back to his mother, father, wife and children.  bad things happen.  people are wronged and hopefully the wrong doer will pay.  more violence is not the answer.

Hardly. I have no use for random shooting, only deliberate shooting.
