PanthersMom -> hyperbaric treatments? (1/8/2009 1:59:50 PM)

i know what they are, but has anyone had personal experience with them?   this is the newest proposed treatment for my left foot.  for those of you not aware of the problem, i had reconstructive surgery in july/august, took two procedures.  since then i've had three more surgical debridements and been on a wound vac to help heal, but as happens at times, my healing has stalled.  now doc is proposing these treatments 4 times a week, probably as soon as they have an opening in the schedule.  i'm just a little nervous about being shoved in a barrel for two hours a day, lol.  thanks for the help.

I don't have any personal experience, but a friend of my mom's has been geting them for months. She is thrilled with the results, and has not mentioned any unpleasantness regarding the process.

I hope it works out well for you.

thanks lauren.  i'm not too thrilled with the idea, but if it saves the foot, i'll at least try.  maybe take some knockout pills, lol, i really hate small spaces!

This is a great treatment to aid wound healing, it can work where nothing else has; the high pressure saturates the wound with oxygen.

thanks thorny.  i did some research, some places have a little room, some use individual chambers, i just don't want a panic attack while i'm in "the deep" and have to wait 15 minutes before i can get the hell out of there!  yes i'm a big baby when it comes to tiny places.  and heights.

The hyperbaric chamber at the local hospital is a big thing - and BLUE!  Not sure what that has to do with anything, but it is the colour of Marge Simpsons hair.[:)]

If you tell your doc that you are claustrophobic, he can prescribe some anti-anxiety meds.  and it should work really well, so stick it out.  good luck.
