Questions on the efficiency of "exotic dancing&quo... - 1/8/2009 6:39:23 PM

Hello.  I've been (was) on a moderate workout routine for about three or four months; running for twenty minutes/other exercises for ten to twenty minutes, about five days a week. It did its job. However, before I went on break, I was getting a little tired of the same old deal. (Long story short )I would like to find a more convenient way of exercising.

I am looking for something that could be done in a dorm room, such as workout routine that comes via DVD.  What I am most interested in is the new stripper (exotic dancing) exercise "craze". It looks fairly enjoyable. My question is...has anyone had experience with this type of  thingy? Is it effective, or purely for show? I'm not trying to lose weight, so it would be more for getting my stomach and leg tone back.

If this is something worth investing money into...would it only work if used some of the week (with the rest spent using my old routine) or could I use only this type of workout weekly and still get viable results?  If you do use something similar to this...is there a reliable site where I could purchase a reasonably priced DVD from ?

Lots of questions within questions within questions. Like the nesting dolls from hell...so if you managed to get through it, I thank you for taking the time to read.  I'm open to any other suggestions too, just nothing that requires walking to the gym in negative disgusting degree weather....and then walking back.

depends how big your dorm room is. i would also try a light weight set and a Fitball. Also try Pilates. Routines can be found searching on Utube.

It is highly effective

I recommend getting one of those professional poles, they cost around $300 for a good one, they have plates for easy removal.

Exotic pole work is a very difficult exercise. For best efficiency I'd add belly dancing to my pole exercise routine.

Pole work requires your muscles grow strong enough for you to hold yourself in different positions of the pole, it is extremely athletic.

For best result, besides practicing at home, I'd say start stripping one or two days a week - if you add lap dancing, which is a lot of waist and hip movement, you'll be set

I would look at the library for different workout dvds and find a style you like.
That way your not spending money until you have had a chance to see if you like it.

The exotic dance sounds like it could be quite a workout, although I would NOT suggest
you run out and get a job as a stripper. There are much easier ways of getting exercise.

Exercise is not supposed to be easy.

No pain, no gain.

What could be better than getting in shape and pulling in the cash for doing so?

That's almost tempting;  seeing as we have 'folks' checking into our rooms on a daily basis to see if everything is in tip-top shape. All I would have to do is set that up that pole along with some fake lines and a video camera. Let the chaos roll in.

(Thank you for your feed back, I will definitely look into this exotic dancing deal further via the library)

Bellydancing workouts are fantastic and a huge amount of fun, ime.   No idea about the pole dancing stuff though.

I totally agree. That's how ya know your alive, when ya feel that burn.

If that's what you want to do with your life, then that's up to you. I would just never suggest it to anyone.

This was before the exotic dancing craze (which is supposed to be good exercise) but I do know belly dancing can be done in a dorm room. A bit of a belly dancing workout group started in my first college and it not only had great results - according to those guys who weren't partaking in the exercise routine it might as well have been exotic dancing.

whatever you do, DON'T attempt to mix belly dance and "exotic dancing"/stripping. belly dance, especially if you're doing a more "authentic" style like raqs sharqi is the dance of a culture, and reducing it to stripping is annoying. does anybody ever suggest mixing ballet or hula with stripping? nope.
belly dance on it's own can be a fantabulous workout, and it can be done in a dorm room (well unless you're doing alot of spinning), but there's already a big enough misconception about bellydancers that we're all strippers and it's not family entertainment when it certainly can be. =p
so whatever you do, don't do that. =p seriously.
great work for the glutes (check out suhaila salimpour and you'll see what i mean) and thighs and obliques.

ANYWAY, having lived in an absurdly tiny dorm room while hiding vast quantities of things from RAs, i think a pole would be hidable in a closet. sit it in there diagonally (though i assume that they are telescoping and can be broken down? yea or nay?) and just hang all of your clothes in front of it. or you might even be able to get an old instrument case (assuming the pole can be broken down) and put it in there.

I've bought and tried a few of the stripper workouts, and I'm of the opinion that "stripper" and "work-out" are mutually exclusive. Although the tapes are fun and will give you some naughty/silly ideas, they're not much of a work-out for anyone. If you can run for twenty minutes, you're not really going to even break a sweat with the main type of "erotic dancing" work-out DVDs.

As to whether or not any type of erotic dancing is a work-out, I can't say, but the tapes I've tried weren't worth the money (unless you're just buying them as porn).
