GQponyboy -> Best way to clean a toy... (1/6/2006 3:10:19 PM)

Outside of the obvious or what may seem obvious, what is the best way to clean a butt plug. I have used hot water and soap as well as a rinse with rubbing alcohol. Is that enough to sterilize it? Are there better ways or products to use?
Also, will rubbing alcohol and hot water and soap kill any viral bacteria?

using silicone toys is the best option. silicone can be boiled or thrown in the dishwasher (along with pyrex dildos) for a very good cleaning. latex toys and "soft skin" toys are porous and not easy to clean because bacteria and such can hide in the pores that you cannot see. there are products on the market, one called "safe suds" and is a cleaner sold in adult stores for that purpose. it is merely impossible to "sterilize" a toy, unless it is surgical steel and gets put into an autoclave each time after use. :)

I've been having some problems with cleaning my toys, most have batteries and when i wash, wash and wash, the water gets to the batteries and then the toys dies. It is funny in a way, but i always want to make sure i am not missing any spots. Cant be too careful even if it is my own toys and never share them.

Most of the time, its my Master than buys my toys and always wandered what the hell i am doing to my toys so they stop working.

The suggestion of silicone toys is a good one. They certainly can be boiled which will kill most, though not necessarily all, organisms on them. For an extra margin of safety, use a pressure canner...that gets hot enough to kill botulism spores when canning foods, and is likely to leave your toys pretty damn clean. I don't think it would be hot enough to damage the toys...silicone rubber is even used in bakeware and cooking tools...good to 4-500F.

Another suggestion...for insertables consider using a condom.

For anything that can take the temperature...bake it at 300F or so.

Having said all that...I offer no guarantees...use at your own risk...play safe.

Alcohol is NOT, NOT, NOT a good cleaner unless you can assure a contact time of at least 11 minutes and you cannot because it evaprorates immediately. Clean with soap and water, hot hot hot to remove residue. Then Use a 10% household bleach solution and soak for about 10 minutes. Rinse well. Air dry. Another option is any medically approved (FDA or EPA) antimicrobial soap. NOT antibacterial as they only kill bacteria not viruses, fungus, etc. And all the real nasties, HIV, HEP, HERPES are viruses. Also most antibacterials only kill a small variety of bacteria. Antimicrobials are expensive. Steris is the one used in most hospitals and avail by their website to the general public. Dont get Steris alcohol based though. Thats for hand cleaning in between soap cleaning. Hope this helps. Of course boiling the items also works, but I still recommend bleach or antimicrobial soap too.

Well said snowleopard11. Alcohol all on it's own is a very week cleanser. As kids most of us where raised that Alcohol, Iodine, and Hydrogen Peroxide where the shit. It turns out that they are shit. They're just common/cheap cleaners for those who are unaware of the good stuff.

As for the medical soap, any good medical supply store should have what's called "Hibicleanse" It's what most hospitals use to clean extra sick patients with. The medical supply store should also have special wound cleansers. Most hospitals also have special cleansers for there equipment. They are usually products that have to be mixed with water and it's best to wear gloves when using it. I'd check a near by hospital to see what they are currently using to clean equimpment with so you see about buying the stuff online or having a store order it for you.

If you don't like chemicals you can go with vinegar and other old remedy techniques

Here is a site that gives a process of a good/decent cleaning method that should prevail with most of your toys.

How about putting a condom on the plug before insertion?
You still need to clean the toy, but it keeps most of the mess off of it.
Toys should last longer too.
Otherwise, I'd vote for silicon toys.

Bingo. Put a condom over it, pull it past the base and tie the end of a condom in a knot. I've been doing this with insertable toys for years and it makes clean-up a breeze.

Just remember that not all toys can be boiled and have cleaners used on them. Many porous surfaces like I mentioned before, such as latex, rubber, and especially "cyber skin" type toys do not work well when boiled or cleaned. The surfaces will either break down chemically, disfigure, or completely "melt." It is good advice, as mentioned by others, to consult a medical cleaning product, IF it can be used on on your specific toys you have. It would be depressing if you used a product on your favorite toy and then it destroyed it for whatever reason. Good luck.

Sunshine119 -> RE: Best way to clean a toy... (1/8/2006 2:42:46 PM)

I find cleaning toys with household cleaning preparations such as "Fantastic with Bleach" or the new "Clorox Cleaning Spray" does the job. Now, I've always been a big proponent of bleach in cleaning up any kind of human fluids (1:10 bleach to water ratio). If you keep this kind of solution in a spray bottle and handy, it would probably do the job just fine too. Just make sure that you have a sterilized brush (or a bleached toothbrush) to scrub between any cracks that might exist.

I also NEVER share toys! This cleaning is for my own toys to keep any bacteria landing on them from multiplying and causing ME an infection.

What's the fun in that?

If it's a butt plug tail, what would keep the butt plug from slipping out and leaving the condum in for you or someone else to dig for?

MadameVonne -> RE: Best way to clean a toy... (1/15/2006 8:55:39 AM)

IF you have a way to keep the alcohol from evaporationg, such as putting a toy in a container with a lid, seems to me that will work. The bleach and Hibiclens work as well.

MistressSassy66 -> RE: Best way to clean a toy... (1/15/2006 3:19:38 PM)

I dont know if its the best way,but My Physican reccommends the benzodine cleaner,you know the brown stuff they use at hospitals,you can get it at Rite-Aid Pharmacy.

Put on a wash cloth,use a tooth brush for nooks and crannies or a q-tip.
Can be used on anything including chains,ropes,leashes and collars.
Put it in a squirt bottle to spray down clothepins,table surfaces, etc.

I personally use a hospital grade anti-bacterial spray and wipes(come from and EMT) along with the brown stuff.

I cover dildos and even spoon handles(that have been sanded smooth) with rubbers.

Alcohol will dry up some of the jelly toys.Bleach can discolor all sorts of items.

Perhaps you could tie the condom to the tail plug,use string .I bet a bread tie would work better.
