LadyHibiscus -> CPAP machine, pre-owned... who to donate it to? (1/17/2009 3:59:10 PM)

A few years ago, I tried to use a CPAP machine to deal with my sleep apnea.  Long story short, it was a failed experiment.  I now have a perfectly functioning CPAP with humidifier and a couple of masks neatly packed away.

Does anyone know of a group who would accept this thing and give it to someone who needs it?  It was freaking expensive, even with health insurance, and I don't want it to go to waste.  I am not looking to make any money from it, just re-home it.  I am hesitant to just leap onto Craiglist with it, since you DO need a doctor or technician to set the machine, it's not something that anyone can just turn on and use.

Thanks!

1-   http://www.secondwindcpap.com/

2-  Try calling the Sleep Clinics at near by hospitals and ask them if they take donations. Also VA hospitals, they may have a program. I would also try the Salvation Army, not local store but one of the headquarters and St. Vincent de Paul.

Thanks, Maybemaybenot!  I had never heard of that site!  A friend works at the VA hospital, I will try them too.  [:)]

Another good one!  I really want to *donate* this thing, not profit from it.

Give it to your local senior center.  Someone there can sure use it.  To someone it will be a godsend.

You could also ask your doctor. They may have a patient who needs one, but can't afford it.

Don't you still need it? Do you still have sleep apnea?

Ahh, want to write off the full "insurance price" value? Talk to your CPA. If you don't have one, United Way can probably hook you up... nobody works the system like they do!

I am a CPA, dear.  I know how to keep my clients OUT of the IRS office.
