Most threads which include anything on the topic of the USA and Great Britain end up in a slanging match [:D] about the differences between them. Soooooooo i thought it might be nice for us to have thread containing only good stuff. So if you're a Brit what do you like etc about the USA and if your an American what do you like about Great Britain.
 
No negativity allowed .....................please !! [:D]

Anyone not from the USA or Great Britain please feel free to post too [:D]

Arguably Britain’s greatest gift to the world.

Also love the history.  All those king and queens and battles and plots – great drama.

I could be biased in that my ancestry is English and that in a past life I was a British soldier (unfortunately, I bit the dust at the Battle of Saratoga – damn rebels!).

I had a BLAST in the UK. I was stationed at RAF Miledenhal.
People were all so friendly there to us "Yanks", and the ladies WOOF ( in a good way)

I love the american accent.
I love the idea of huge hotel rooms, are's are so cramped in the main.
I love that America has no royal family.

One thing I really, really miss about England: the sense of humour. The irony. The deadpan delivery. The self-deprecation.

Topically, I found one delightful good-thing when watching the inauguration ceremony; the clear logical explanation of the democratic process and its contrast with processes where power is seized by force or corruption. One might smile at the furore over chards, hanging or pregnant, and as Brits we might smile condescendingly at an election process which confuses many. I was still rather moved by the dignity of the inauguration ceremony.

Most of all I'm impressed by the consistent concept of God Bless America, the way in which so many people identify with their nation.

I consistently tease our American cousins but in reality I respect them hugely. And I love the way many of them like our Brit accent so much - what good taste  [sm=smile.gif]


PS  - to Americans - would you like to swap national leaders with us? Please? Pretty please?

Ah well, shit happens. This was about a feel good feeling between the Brits and Americans since there is sometimes contention between the two.
Has nothing to do with leaving anyone out, just doesn't involve them in a direct way.
Anyone who is not Brit or American can post too of course. Before my ass gets flamed. [:D]

Oh my God, I so HATE American television. It's made for children. Even the word 'shit' is beeped over because it's supposed to be offensive. Everything is simplified under the assumption that the average adult is too thick and too stupid to understand slightly challenging complexes.

I vote for British television: best in the world.

Oh I would love to second all that, though im not overly fond of sacerine sentiment I was genuienly moved while watching the audiance cheer Obama in, it was a wonderful moment and I do wish that we were more interested and involved in politics.

And im liking your thinking on the swap too Mr SD

I like the fact that your Prime Minister has to bend a knee to the Queen (representing the people) before taking office.  I think that all future Presidents should have to take the Oath of Office on their knees while facing the people.

Seriously, I don't have anything against the UK.  We have a lot in common with each other.  We both are ridiculed for our cuisine.  We both have a youth culture with a fondness for binge drinking.  We both have a secret fondness for tabloids and gossip.  We watch the same movies, and we listen to the same music.
