what you want to do is *prevent* damage. next time before swimming, wet your hair and condition it. then put on a swim cap. you do double duty...the conditioner prvents the salt water from damaging it, and it conditions deeply because you're trapping heat in the cap too. salt water will dull your hair because salt crystals are sharp, even dissolved in water. it also gives a buildup, so a clarifying shampoo should help some, or rinse your hair with diluted apple cider vinegar. if you can find coconut oil, a SMALL amount of that applied to the hair (we're talking about the amount you could scrape under one short fingernail for the entire head of hair) will also help smooth out roughened hair. coconut oil can be found in the cooking oil section of some grocery stores, also at health food stores. hope that helps some kitten
