Geithner sworn in as Treasury Secretary.   I'm sorry, but he can't be the ONLY one able to be in charge of the Treasury and the IRS.

But hey, Change is Change...right?

I guess, as the Chinese curse goes..."May you live in interesting times..."

Timothy Geithner is Wall Street and Washington insider who can be trusted. Considering current situation they must be very careful who they put on this position. Paulson work must be seamlessly continued. Why should Congress care about tax violations? Most rich cheat tax system one way or another.

You know, an apologist is still an apologist.

And a tax evader is still a tax evader.
He isn't the ONLY person who could run the Treasury, but he is the one who will be running it under a dark cloud.

US government is corrupt. Does adding a micromole of corruption really matter?

Is micromole a little bit like guacamole, except a lot less green?

And complicated IRS regulations that over half of those filling out make the same mistake, are complicated IRS regulations that over half of those filling out make the same mistake.

But then, it's so much easier to be an expert mind-reader and/or assumer-of-the-worst, now isn't it?

Somehow I doubt Mr. Geithner uses Turbo Tax.
I can't say for sure, but I have a hunch he uses an accountant. They get special schooling to fill out those pesky forms.

And has been pointed out on this forum before, many of those tax accountants make the same mistake that Geithner's did.  Despite the special schooling.

BTW, it's not the pesky forms, it's the regulations regarding what numbers go into them.

Sorry, it's not you. But I just don't swallow that excuse.
Leona Helmsley and many other got jail for their accountant's mistake. Not appointment to the office that oversees the IRS.

Who cares if you swallow it?  I'm relating the facts from the IRS and tax experts that apply to this particular situation.  You can play mind-reader all you want, but them's the facts.  And they support a tenable explanation.
