What I would love: a way to make myself taller without any pain rofl.

Oh no you don't! I adore cute, short, little women!

i am nearly 6 ft (36 in inseam) and it sucks. I always wanted to be short, cute and little.

Well Holly, you've got the cute. And yeah, I always wanted to be taller also. But at 5'6" I am stuck with average I fear.

Vendaval -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/28/2009 5:05:23 PM)

I have been very careful about sun exposure for years, using Neutrogena sunblock lotion on face, neck and hands/lower arms during most of the year and adding it wherever necessary in the summer, meaning shoulders and breasts.

In addition, I wear sunglasses and hats in the summer sun and do not smoke or drink heavily.  Water intake is high on a daily basis as is the consumption of juice and vitamins

One of my roommates was several years younger and an long distance runner.  She used to complain about having more wrinkles than I simply from sun exposure.

One thing i do use every morning is moisturiser with sunscreen - i went back to New Zealand and saw one of my cousins who is the same age as me - and she looked as if someone had been cutting on her face with a knife-  the wrinkles from the sun were so bad!  I want to be the old lady that everyone comments on how good her skin is.[:)]

kittinSol -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/28/2009 5:09:34 PM)

The sun is a cruel friend; I'm so glad I didn't stay in Marseille past the age of eight. My skin would be toast by now.

Vendaval -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/28/2009 5:14:03 PM)

I hear you, gorgeous.  Lying in the sun can feel so good sometimes but I know what the results will be in the long run.  And the way people look who spend a lot of time in tanning beds is truly scary!  Rotissere chicken skin we call it.

A dwarfish 5'5''.

Kittin, that's not bad, you can wear 4 " heels and be 5'9".
I like woman from 5' to 6'.

GreedyTop -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/28/2009 5:25:40 PM)

KS.. you're calling yourself dwarfish at 5'5"??  jeez.. I'm only 5'4"

TreasureKY -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/28/2009 5:25:45 PM)

I'm 5' 4" (maybe 4 1/2")... I always figured that was about average.  [&:]

As for makeup, like most everyone else here, I don't wear it all the time... just seems silly to worry about putting it on to clean house or go to the store.  Of course, I try to look my best for Firm, but even so, my "everyday" makeup is pretty simple with a light foundation, blush and tiny bit of eyeliner.  I was always taught that makeup should be to enhance and that done right, you shouldn't even be able to tell that you have makeup on.  Going out for the evening, I'll "glam" up with a smokey eyeshadow, some mascara, and a shimmery shade-darker-than-natural lipstick.

Generally, I have very good skin and most people don't realize that I'm fast approaching 50.  (lol... I was mistaken for Firm's 30-something daughter just the other day.)  While I feel that I do look better with a touch of makeup, for me, my hair is the clincher.  If my hair is a mess, I feel awful.  I do try to take decent care of it... coloring only with natural henna (I'd be almost completely silver-haired if I didn't), avoiding blow-drying (unless I'm in a hurry), and using a natural bristle brush.  While my hair isn't "stick" straight, it lacks a decent natural wave pattern and "fullness" so I do curl it with light steam rollers.  If I don't curl it, it will look decent for an hour or so, then quickly deteriorates into what I can only describe as a limp, stringy mess.  Is that vanity?  Perhaps so, but I like to look at it as sparing people who might see me from the unnecessary trauma.  [;)]

While I'm not dead set against cosmetic surgery, I've never had any done.  I've considered it a time or two, but none too seriously.  I've seen one too many documentaries on it and the procedures just "squick" me.  Besides, I've already lived just fine for 46 years with any feature I might have "augmented" or "altered".

I suppose that aside from a few "flaws" about myself that I don't particularly embrace, I'm generally happy with what God gave me.  But I don't begrudge anyone else taking steps to make what they were given more to their liking.

Edited to surgically alter a "should" into a "shouldn't".

Maybe it's the legendary British self-derision :-) . But seriously, 5'5'' is very, very average, especially today. The new generation of young women is really much taller than ours... it also depends on which country you're in: in France, I'm tallish. In England, average. In the USA, with all that Germanic heritage, I'm dwarfish. It's all relative [8D] .

Kittin, yes, I noticed that in Ireland too!
The young women up in Donegal tend to be very tall!
But, you go way down to Cork and both the men and women are short.
It's like being at a midget's convention down there.

kittinSol -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/28/2009 7:54:57 PM)

Scotland (Glasgow, especially), feels very much like the Shire too, as far as people's height is concerned...

missturbation -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/29/2009 5:54:35 AM)

I'm 5ft 4 but always wear heels to hide my dwarf status in public.
Then i go to someones house or they come to mine and i'm barefooted and they say 'oooooooooo aren't you tiny'. No shit sherlock !!

kittinSol -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/29/2009 6:07:37 AM)

Tell me about it, Miss. Same here. I even compensate by going on tippy toes, if I'm 'au naturel' (it helps to be wearing long, wide-legged trousers, for this particular magic trick [8D]).

colouredin -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/29/2009 6:08:58 AM)

Hmm see among my friends im about average 5"2 we come from a tiny persons town

Nice one :-) .

PS: I meant nice one on the 'you have someone who looks up to you' retort :-) . I agree that it's good to be content with what we have, especially when what we have is really rather nice :-) .

Aileen1968 -> RE: Natural beauty and why we hide it (1/29/2009 6:32:44 AM)

I tend to not wear a lot of makeup. A little blush, neutral shadow, a little eyeliner and lipstick.
If I'm going out at night I'll bump up the color a bit on the eyeshadow and some mascara.
If I'm running errands...hair up in a ponytail works.
I sometimes will flat iron my hair, but it's destroyed it this past year.
In the summer I have curly hair on humid days and just generally wavy hair normally.
I'm five feet tall. Thank God for heels.
I always wear perfume....
And pretty underthings even under sweatpants....it changes how you move and view the world. 8)
