I enjoy having a few drinks.  Just picked up two six packs of Bell's Hop Slam....If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up ...Ferris Beuhler's Day Off.

When it comes to beer I am definitely a hop head. Otherwise, alcohol much like food, I have a very open and diverse palate and can appreciate many different tastes.

Love the slight burn and warming feeling of alcohol as it is consumed.  At times, I like the overall sensation.

Don't hang with those that alcohol alters their essence...They just kill my buzz. Those fucking buzz kills.
Can't get Bells here in Jawja. If I need some intense hoppyness, I go with Weyerbacher Double Simcoe, Dogfish head 90 Minute IPA, Terrapin's Big Hoppy Monster, Stone Ruination, or "Gordon" from Oakar Blues.

I've been drinking mostly barleywines, RIS's, and Belgian-style strong ales like Brother Thelonius from North Coast (really, really dig their "Old Stock Ale" too, and Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout). Have a couple 4-packs of Terrapin's "Wake n Bake Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout on hand, need to get some more Brookly Black Chocolate Stout as well.

I'm one of those with chronic pain from degenerative disc disease, and osteoarthritis. A little alcohol definitely helps with the pain. I should just not bother reading right-wing posts when I'm sippin', though ... they piss me off and I occasionally fail to censor myself enough.

I guess I'm in the minority.  I am a complete nondrinker except for the pittance of wine I drink when I attend Friday night services.

It's not anything serious - I just never developed a taste for alcohol.

you would hate hangin out with me then. I drink Whiskey, dance on tables and act REALLY
naughty!

By the way, I am not one that NEEDS alcohol to be crazy. I am uninhibited anyway. I even dance to the music being played in the grocery store(much to Wardens dismay). Whats that saying? Live like there's no tommorrow, dance like nobody's watching and love like you've never been hurt.

I enjoy a glass a wine with a good meal and really enjoy passing a bottle - along with that certain, aforementioned, herb - around a campfire in the company of good friends, but I’ve never posted drunk.  As for posting while under the influence of that certain, aforementioned herb, well let’s just say… whoa… oh man, I got the munchies.

Edited to add: sometimes, reading the posts while under the influence of that certain, aforementioned, herb is the only was I can tolerate some of you people.

Red wine is good for us, that I know, a glass does no harm depending of course on the size of the glass. But what it is in red wine that is good for us can be got be drinking non alcoholic red grape juice. I understand the need for the alcoholc content, the relaxation and feeling of contentment, the ability to forget, but are our lives so stressful that we need to forget, or is it just an excuse to drink ourselves out of our normal mind.

Why does it seem we need to get out of our normal mind

Here's an edit that makes more sense-

You suck and then Life dies.

There. Much better. You can thank me later.

DG!  Well I am certainly going to open something from the adult beverage family, and raise it towards your smiling face! (Have you put on weight?)

I drink. I drink quite a bit actually... mainly beer, occasionally wine.  RARELY I will have some sort of liquor (I like vanilla rum and orange juice..it tastes like a creamsicle).  I am usually buzzed when I am posting (well, except when I'm at work..LOL).

I drink damn near every day.  One or two cold ciders taste very good.  Then I'm done.  A Saturday night, we might decide to have a few drinks and I'll stop at a nice buzz.  I get drunk very rarely.

I have been known to post under the influence of a margarita or three.

Alcohol in it's myriad flavours is a poison, yet we drink it, but why ?

Why does it seem some of us need to drink alcohol, what do we get from it, what is it that is so attractive ?

Are you drinking alcohol now,
do you post under the influence of alcohol, do you think it affects your thoughts in posting ?

Would you like to be rid of it ??

Serious Reply:

I drink because my mind will not shut down. I drink to shut it to be able to sleep.

Yes, I would like to be rid of this, and of any other "crutches".

Many things poisionous, in lesser quantities, are indulged, for 'mental' effects.

> Are you drinking alcohol now,
Yes

> do you post under the influence of alcohol,

> do you think it affects your thoughts in posting ?
It absolutely does, though I am mindful of that factoid.

> Alcohol in it's myriad flavours is a poison, yet we drink it, but why ?

WAAAAY safer than phamaceuticals for self-medicating. (also waaaay cheaper)

Ever read the list of possible 'side-effects' on yer LEGAL DRUGS?!? SRSLY!

I don't think it's a poison in moderation.  I don't drink very often, but when I do, I like either vodka, and more recently I've gotten into cabernet sauvignon (sp).

Occasionally I will actually try to get drunk, but get tired of the taste before that happens.  The only time I really get wrecked  is xmas eve with my crazy italian family, and if you knew them, you'd get drunk too.

When I do drink, it's for no other reason than to catch a buzz and I don't concern myself much with poisoning myself, since I don't drink too often.  And red wine has antioxidants in it which is supposed to be all kindsa good for us.

I don't drink as much as I used to, perhaps only twice a week now and when I do, it is no more than two pints of cooking  ale, i.e . one of the lowest alcoholic contented beer that actually has some taste and I am a person that seeks taste more than effect. I used to drink to relax, turn the mind off, but I realised that with an over active mind all the time, using alcohol to relax was not good, so I cut that back, besides with pubs in the UK, beer is expensive, though I cannot quite understand why there is a difference of 20 pence for the same pint of ale between two pubs, both say the brewery sets the prices and it is the same brewery that supplies each pub, hmmm, someone is telling porkies some where.

What I do tend to drink is ale, to include bitters and stouts, also red wine, good cabernet types and merlots, strangely rarely french, more south American, Australian and South African and some Bulgarian. Spirits and liquers I tend to leave alone.

Come this weekend, I don't really like getting drunk anymore, but it may be inevitable, for my local has a real ale festival on.

Recent recessional news, the breweries in England have asked the government for financial support to keep the pubs open, good, if any public institution needed help, it has to be one of the places adults can go and relax.

I don't usually drink and I don't usually post if I have been drinking.
As well, have lived with functional alcoholics and have seen how alcohol can destroy someone.
Not a fun thing to watch.

~FR~

I drink for two reasons.

1) Taste - I love fruity drinks... and add a slight burn when going down? Yum! I don't usually do high alcohol content stuff... yet I *do* have a soft spot for Rum 151 (straight and in shots XD). That's all related to the burn, though, which feels so good and yummy...

I can't drink beer, the taste makes me feel sick. Vodka I need to be IN something, and whiskey's got *too* much flavor. Rum in general is really a good drink for me :)

2) When I'm buzzed, it's one of the rare times I feel happy. That sounds slightly more depressing than I mean it, but any attempt to explain would likely be poorly articulated, so I'll leave it at that.

I don't really drink a lot, or often. When I drink it's usually the alcohol content of four shots of Rum 151, though spread out over the night, and in the context of friends. If I drink alone, it's purely for the burn and I don't drink enough to really alter anything. It's been... hmm, five weeks since I've had a drink? And that was with my family in Texas.

I admit to having used alcohol as a crutch.  I have only been punished twice, and both had alcohol involved.  (I wasn't punished for drinking but for something that I did because I was drinking.)  While it can be good in moderation I have come to learn that sometimes I can't tell when I've had enough.  I have learned not to post when I have been drinking, and to be very selective with the people I will email.  For the most part I go without simply because I know that I cannot always control myself and hate the thought of a mere liquid controlling me.  It is one thing if I share a drink with another and am social, quite another if I have three or four drinks alone since that tends to turn me angry and self pitying.
