I hate my mattress and want to get a nice, comfortable bed.  The Select Comfort beds sound great, and I've gone to the store to look at them and lie down on them...but the $3000+ price tag is definitely keeping me from taking the chance on it, since you can't really tell what a mattress is like by lying on it for 10 minutes in the store.

If you have one...do you absolutely love it?  Was it worth the money you paid for it?

I have slept on one, and I was not wowed by it. Granted, I did not have the time to fiddle around and make sure it was perfectly set for me, but I didnt find it to be that spectacularly different than other mattresses I have slept on.

The other problem I've heard is that if you get a mattress 'for two' then you have the small problem of if each side is 'set' differently. Personally I snuggle close with whoever I'm sleeping with a good portion of the time... enough that we would fit on only one side of the bed... so if it were his and completely uncomfortable for me, no go. Vice verse, too, I'd imagine.

Yea, i have slept on them to an they are just an air mattress with a hell of a price tag.  Go spend about 1g on a really good sealy and save the rest.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Select Comfort bed...anyone have one? (1/29/2009 6:51:53 PM)

My ex had one, back when they were new on the market.  He had it set mushy for his bad back... I prefer sleeping on a hard mattress, but I still liked it.  Not enough to cough up that much for MYSELF, mind you!

Lockit -> RE: Select Comfort bed...anyone have one? (1/29/2009 7:02:52 PM)

I have serious back issues and haven't slept on this bed, but tried many things.  Waterbed with tubes and air, just air, memory foam, sealy and serta and then the Denver Matteress Doctor's Choice, which is now called something else.  For the money... I found the best bed and comfort with the doctor's choice.  The memory foam is good for deep sleep and amazing because I don't sleep, but it doesn't offer the amount of support on the problem area of my spine and I sink in and then pay for it.

The air is too hard even with a foam pad or it it too soft when you use less air.

A friend of mine bought the numbers air bed and it has a foam top.  He said that the top wore down after a few years and they had the same sinking that a spring or foam mattress would have.  So I highly recommend the denver mattress, doctor's choice.  You could buy six of them for the price of some other beds, but I found the quality good and every time I laid down on it, it felt like heaven to my achy body and I woke up feeling better than with any other bed.  The one fight my ex and I had when we broke up was over that bed and the dog, if that tells you anything.  He got the bed and the dog, I didn't have a yard. lol

i've had mine since they were new, too, i believe.  It hasn't been too much of a problem for me, but then again, i like sinking down into them and getting all comfy. [:)]

Enjoy them while you can. The co. is based here in the Twin Cities, and will probably be the next one to go under. Their shareholders are all over them for spending money ona a HUGE computer upgraded they never needed, doesn't work, and have to pay for support for a project that has since been cancelled for the next five years.

Get a Comfortaire instead.  Select Comfort split off from Comfortaire years ago, but their price is higher due to all that Sleep Number marketing.

I have a Comfortaire and it's great.  Best mattress I've ever had, hands down.  Plus you don't have to turn it, and it doesn't sag.

winterlight -> RE: Select Comfort bed...anyone have one? (1/29/2009 8:17:00 PM)

i have one. I now wonder if i should have gotten a foam mattress type. I have a bad back and i still wake up achy and hurting. Mine has the adjustable air thing BUT its not the fancy one they show on t.v. It doesn't show the numbers.

Cagey18 -> RE: Select Comfort bed...anyone have one? (1/29/2009 8:56:20 PM)

Does it have memory foam between you and the air mattress?  That's key.

Also, read on their website about "firmness" if you haven't already.  Many people equate "firmness" with "better", and it's not always the case.

my mom and dad have and and hate it now. my dad is on the larger size and his side of the bed has broken down, personally for the money i want a memory foam bed, god i love those beds!

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Select Comfort bed...anyone have one? (1/30/2009 12:56:09 PM)

I am also on the larger side, I bought a bed,( and no it wasn't a select comfort bed) well rather my dad did for me, for a birthday gift, since my old one was well over 8 years old and broke as hell,  and it was supposed to be top of the line and it was a little over a thousand dollars, well in less than 7 months it had completely broke down, and the brand new replacement bed they sent out had broke down too.

I ended up needing a new bed, and my dad hadn't even payed off the other one. I ended up feeling so bad about it.

After much research and testing, I got a hybrid mattress for my platform bed and I LOVE it!!

It is a Simmons Beautyrest Black. I think it was on sale for something near $1,500.00. I've had it for a couple of years now and still adore it.

If I remember correctly, there is a bottom layer of springs of some sort, then a bunch of latex foam, then a top layer of down, or a down alternative.

I always liked really firm, boardlike mattresses......until this. If you press your hand into it, you think "omg no, way too soft" BUT if you lay on it, totally different and very supportive. And, you never have to flip it, you can't.

The only downside I can even think of was that I have to have extra deep pocket bottom sheets because of it's height. Which is fine as I have a bedding obsession. I love to find great, high quality sheets and bedding on clearance. So it really hasn't been that expensive. JCPenney has some great, high thread count, cotton percale, sheets that fit well and are on sale several times a year.

Yes, I do love my bed.

I have 3 beds currently set up.  That and a couch. I go where I am comfy.

Ironically the one I picked out of a dumpster is better then the one that I bought.... go figure

pahunkboy -> RE: Select Comfort bed...anyone have one? (1/30/2009 2:07:38 PM)

oh.. maybe this might helped.  more springs = a better mattress.

a worn mattress can be a bummer. a buddy spent 6k on a craftmatic.  it is nice, I guess- but somehow he sleeps alot in his chair.

lighthearted -> RE: Select Comfort bed...anyone have one? (1/30/2009 7:46:30 PM)

mine is very similar to LaT's, with the mattress base, memory foam and then pillowtop - also a Simmons Beautyrest..  I have been really happy with it, seems to have to best of both worlds.  but, be prepared to have to hunt around to find bottom sheets to cover the mattress completely.

My first domme had a Tempurpedic and I absolutely loved it.  I'd not only recommend it to anyone, but as soon as I can afford one, I'm definitely getting myself one.

One thing I must add, the reason I chose what I did was heat.

Strictly foam mattresses, regardless of quality, can be too hot for some people.......like me.

I had a friend that got a Tempurpedic and loved the support but could not stand how hot she got on it. She finally got a featherbed mattress to put on top of it and was finally happy. That was what I took into consideration when I went shopping. I knew I would need that breathable layer between me and the foam. I still only sleep with a sheet and light quilt most nights, even now in the winter in a coldish room. I also have several furry heaters that cuddle up next to me too. My fantastic down comforter seems to spend more time on the chaise lounge in the corner, than on the bed.

I started my car up.

I will be over in 10 mins to check your bed.  I want to see if it is bouncy.    Have coffee ready.
