Are clorox wipes safe to clean vibrators, dildos, butt plugs, etc?
I've been using them and I was just curious?  If not what is a good product to use?

I use all silicone toys, and I wipe them down with chlorox, then boil them for a few minutes. You can also boil glass and stainless steel toys.  If you use jelly toys, I think you can buy a specific type of toy cleaner, but that material seems like it would harbor nasties anyway.

Antibacterial Wipes/Sprays
These are made to kill staphylococcus aureus and most bacteria on hard, nonporous surfaces. Leather is porous. Directions on these wipes/sprays instruct to thoroughly wet the surface and allow surface to remain wet for 10 minutes before use. In addition, although some of these wipes and sprays are targeted to disinfect (when used as directed) up to 99.9% of Staph and Salmonella and also target cold and flu viruses they may not be capable of destroying other viruses. Pre-cleaning soiled surfaces is also necessary to disinfect properly, since science tells us that many types of soils will deactivate disinfectants. (Note: Informed risk when using these products to supposedly sterilize and/or disinfect dungeon furniture)

Most viruses do not live outside of the body for more than 10 minutes, however, staph and a few others need some help dying.  Jsut think of yourself as a big virus and bacteria factory (gross.. I know), but you need a few things to live.  Water, Food, Oxygen, Proper Temperature.... so if I put you outside naked and it is 10 degree F outside (hypothermia- that must be someone's fantasy on here), you will only last for about 5-6 hours max,... now think of something microscopic and how long that will last.

I recommend using a viruscide and a general cleaner, like dishsoap.  The viruscide will kill everything and the soap will wash the chemicals from the cleaner away, as well as disolve the grease or oils that hold the bacteria and virus in place.  You can get viruscide at any local drugstore or on the interwebs.

I know, I know... I am sooo romantic.

boiling works well for most things as does antibacterial soap(jelly, silicone, etc)we have a huge selection of toys of all varieties and have found that washing them with antibacterial then letting them air dry prevents most if not all things from transferrance or a chance of living..most bacteria, viruses cannot live long outside the body..and washing them before and after keeps it to a min. ..also keeping the toys seperate when playing with multiple partners.

We also use silicone dildos and penatrive toys because they are non porous. I wipe them down with hibiscrub and then stick them in the dishwasher.
Anything surgical steel gets done in the autoclave but you can use a pressure cooker.

romantic but correct. ;)

Dawn is a good one to use, for soap.  Original Dawn, at least.
It's non toxic and mild, but very effective.  They use it at veterinarians offices for washing animals that need it, as well as at oil spill sites etc.

I used to tell all of the customers that asked about such things when I was working at a toy store to use dawn, or just a mild soap and hotish warm water.

Just slam it hard against the wall a couple of times and hope that the force dislodges the majority of the hair, blood and poo.

Then carry on with your biz.

Dishwasher works great on silicon toys, just make sure your soap leaves no residue and/or is allergen free.

P.s. Don't forget them in dishwasher when guests visit =o

I use hot water and an antibacterial soap..and usually let them soak awhile in the hot water.  So far, no problems..

Viraguard for porous material (leather, skin, etc.), for non-porous stuff Disinfectant Spray Precise Foam Cleaner, sounds and other things an autoclave would be best but a good old fashioned pressure cooker works the same, it's just more hassle

I guessed that there was "some" humor in that..   ..it did make me smile and I had a visual of him beating his 12" dildo on the wall and leaving interesting marks.  How do you explain those to friends who come over...?  That should be a new thread... I will make one now

Re: Are clorox wipes safe to clean vibrators, dildos, butt plugs, etc?

Each person must understand that there are RELATIVE degrees of cleanliness as they apply to various kinds of contaminants.

Emersion {in the cleaner} or sponge cleaning - sounds a wiser judgement, concerning surfaces that are not flat , due to ridges and cracks in the products where bacteria, virusus will tend to harbor.

{{ Elegant..expressed a Very Important distinction: "When usued as Directed !" }}-

For vibrators, dildo's, butt plugs {in addition to the use of a condom !} I clean with "Crew Neutral NA" -{ a germicide and disinfectant} - it kills the follwing on hard non-porous inanimate surfaces in the presence of organic soil {10% blood serum}:

Bacteria:
Pseudomonas aeruginosa Staphylococcus aureus
Salmonella choleraesuis Campylobacter fetus
Enterobacter aerogenes Escherichia coli
Escherichia coli 0157:H7 Klebsiella pneumoniae
Listeria monocytogenes Micrococcus sedentarius
Proteus mirabilis Salmonella choleraesuis,
Salmonella typhi (formerly known as Salmonella schottmuelleri)
Shigella sonnei Staphylococcus species
Shigella dysenteriae Escherichia coli (Tetracycline resistant)
Enterococcus faecalis Streptococcus pneumoniae
(resistant to Vancomycin [VRE]) (resistant to Penicillin [PRSP])
Staphylococcus aureus
(resistant to Methicillin [MRSA])
Viruses:
HBV (Hepatitis B Virus)
HCV* {Hepatitus C Virus}
Herpes simplex Type 1
HIV-1 (AIDS virus)**
Influenza Type A2 (Hong Kong)
Herpes simplex Type 2

{It's relatively expensive - estimated w/ tax - $40 per bottle}
