From here, it looks like the decision may have been purely for political expedience - President Obama threw Daschle under the bus because he had become a liability. Sanity, I don't know how far you have to go back to find an example of one Presidential decision that wasn't made with some big portion of "political expedience". However, going by memory alone, this is the first one where the 'buck stops here' card was played. "I screwed up" should have been on a handy cue card for the Oval office since 1984. President Obama said exactly that. He said what most of his supporters, especially those on CM, weren't willing to accept. Hell - that's worthy of a kudos right there, isn't it? Does it make for smooth sailing ahead? Doubtful, especially if he still has some outstanding 'back-room' debt to payoff as indicated by his trial balloon consideration of Dean for this position. He's already got the wolf-pack from many of his supporting cast of special interests pounding on the door. Now he has to deal with Speaker Pelosi's gaff. Let's see how that plays out. Do you think in your wildest dream she'll say "I screwed up!"? Maybe in her pontificating, delusional, out of touch, left wing world she's been told there are 500 million people applying for unemployment. I'm sure it will be a 'miss-speak' or a 'miss-representation' or some other thing like it was a metaphor. I'm not going to attack President Obama or come up with a rationalized reason to be against anything coming out of his administration anymore than I rationalized support of President Bush. Good ideas, like the cap on executive compensation for the next Bush/Obama stimulus package should have been in place the first time around. Let's see what happens - it's two weeks. The "I screwed up" examples have been well documented. So on two weeks and one day - I'm (as valueless as it is) very much in support of this pronouncement. If if really wants to get me excited; lets see him strip each and every dollar of pork that Nancy Pelosi and her ilk have put into the stimulus Bill. I'll start sending him weekly fruit baskets if he has the courage to make the USA a functional organization, demands results, and cuts employment as part of the budget balancing as any well run operation would under current economic conditions. You don't add 600,000 employees when you are losing money - unless of course you can print it.
