Mocking them and attacking them with claims that they lack "bipartisanship".  [sm=popcorn.gif]

quote:

At Dem retreat, a partisan love fest

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — A fired-up Barack Obama ditched his TelePrompter to rally House Democrats and rip Republican opponents of his recovery package Thursday night – at one point openly mocking the GOP for failing to follow through on promises of bipartisanship.

In what was the most pointedly partisan speech of his young presidency, Obama rejected Republican arguments that massive spending in the $819 billion stimulus bill that passed the House should be replaced by a new round of massive tax cuts.

“I welcome this debate, but we are not going to get relief by turning back to the same policies that for the last eight years doubled the national debt and threw our economy into a tailspin,” said President Obama – sounding more like Candidate Obama than at any time since he took the oath of office less than a month ago.

Obama, speaking to about 200 House Democrats at their annual retreat at the Kingsmill Resort and Spa, dismissed Republican attacks against the massive spending in the stimulus.

"What do you think a stimulus is?" Obama asked incredulously. "It’s spending — that's the whole point! Seriously.”

Stabbing hard at Republicans who once aligned themselves with his predecessor, Obama made it clear that the problems he seeks to address with his recovery plan weren’t ones of his making.

Well I do beleive that turn about is fair play.
I would love to see all the reps vote PRESENT, then when the dems get what they want and the economy really tanks, its all on them.

Owner59 -> RE: Fired-Up, Obama Bashes GOP Reps (2/6/2009 8:34:25 AM)

As he should.

We,Americans, don`t want a 2nd depression,as the GOP seems hell bent on getting.

It`s the same winning stratigy that got them *booted* in the 1st place.Nothings changed with them.

I imagine the cons think they got Obama right where they want him.lol.

Your well wishes for the country are duly noted.
Amusing that they appear on a thread bashing President Obama for partisianship.
Tell me Coldwarrior where does idealology stop and love of country and fellow man begin......right after you get to say nana told you so....

rexrgisformidoni -> RE: Fired-Up, Obama Bashes GOP Reps (2/6/2009 9:08:22 AM)

56% of americans are against this "recovery plan". Plus the jobs are mostly a joke, and the infrastructure projects are totally asinine. (thats a fun word btw)
Anyhow, my 3 cents.

I don't feel like looking. It's been on CNN and the morning shows, but I could have been hallucinating from lack of sleep. Plus, do  you really want to borrow 1 trillion from China and Saudi Arabia? I'll pass thanks. Plus, TARP money was pretty much over-given out (is that even a word?), too much given away. HUrray!

I don't know what rock you've been hiding under, but the republicans have done far worse already. They insisted on many concessions such as their favorite tax breaks to their favorite constituents, and changes that actually make the bill LESS EFFECTIVE. Then, after Obama convinced the Democrats to bend over backwards to give the Republicans what they wanted, in the spirit of bipartisanship, ALL the Republicans voted against it anyway. First, they cripple the bill so it won't work as well as it could, then they vote against it so they can blame it on the Democrats. They would like nothing better than for Obama to fail, even if it means severely hurting millions of working-class and middle-class people all across the country. All they care about is their own political future and ideological fanaticism. If they can cause Obama to fail, they think that they will benefit.

It's time for Obama and the Democrats to treat the Republicans in Congress as they deserve. Pass the bill exactly as the Democrats want it, don't give the Republicans a damn thing, and ram it down their throats. We don't need their votes any more.

And, by the way, in case you didn't notice, the economy has ALREADY REALLY TANKED! And it was the fault of Bush and his fellow Republicans, for pursing bankrupt ideologies in foreign, domestic, and economic policy. No matter what happens as the Democrats try to clean up the awful mess, it's far too late for the Republicans to plead that it's not their fault.

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: Fired-Up, Obama Bashes GOP Reps (2/6/2009 10:03:14 AM)

He's at a point where from a political perspective, he has no choice. The republicans have backed him into a corner where he has no other way out. The only problem is, the more he fights back against them, the more he runs the risk of increasing the panic that's already consuming the country, because the only tactic he can use is to point out to the American people the dire consequences we all face if this stimulus package doesn't work. He's definitely between a rock and a hard place here, and the republicans are (once again) shrewd enough to recognize it.

I see it differently. If the package doesn't pass because of the obstructionists, he gets to tell America that the obstructionists are the reason the nation's economy has deteriorated even further.

The repubs don't care. They represent the rich and the corps.

As noted on another forum, they're like the Mormons. ANyone can join the Mormon Church, but only the whitest of the white  go to #1 heaven. Anyone can join the repubs, but only the rich will be taken care of. The serfs can fend for themselves.

"Mocking and attacking"? A little too touchy, aren't we?
Looks to me like all Obama did was state the facts objectively. No mock, just fact. If you don't like it, too bad.

Much can be learned about the nature of the group meeting at this 'Retreat'. First and foremost the hypocrisy of the attendees, including the keynote speaker who earilier this week, correctly, reprimanded the bailed out failures for basically the exact same thing - using tax payer money to fund their party.

quote:

WASHINGTON —Is it a case of congressional Democrats saying one thing then doing another?
Legislators scolded financial executives for holding corporate retreats at posh hotels and now, the House Democratic Caucus is holding a legislative retreat this weekend in Williamsburg, Va. at a luxury spa and golf resort.
We wanted to know who’s picking up the tab—so NBC 4‘s Patrick Preston investigated to find out.
The Congressional Democrats are meeting at the Kingsmill Resort and Spa, where members will pay between $119 and $400 each night for their rooms. But taxpayers pick up the rest of the cost.
Taxpayer dollars are being spent for transportation—a chartered Amtrak train—and security to protect members of Congress, as well as facility and speaker fees.
When Preston asked the spokesperson for the Democratic Caucus for the total taxpayer expense, he was told that no one had that answer.

"No one had that answer" - Obviously nobody in attendance has any integrity either.

This just in....
What was the most often heard comment at the Democrat's retreat keynote dinner?
~ Pass the Pork~!

Actually, those were the exact type of words used in the article - so, who is "a little too touchy"?

And I posted this as humor. Perhaps it should have been in the "Humor" section...

Obama stabs and bashes and mocks Republicans for being partisan.

You didn't get the joke?

If you truly missed the comedy that leaps right out of this article, I am so sorry... but you can hardly blame me for your error. I even provided a little laughing face thingy beside the OP to give you a heads up that it was humor, before you even opened the thread!

You know what else is funny about it? At that retreat, Obama bashed Bush for doubling the deficit in eight years, something Obama wants to accomplish in his first two weeks. And then, to top it all off, what was he bashing the Republicans for exactly?

Wait for it...

FOR TRYING TO CUT WASTE FROM THE MOUNT PORKULUS STIMULUS BILL!!!

This Obama guy is a riot...   [sm=rofl.gif]

(But at least he's an intelligent speaker)  [sm=doh.gif]

You get it, in a way... except you're giving me way too much credit.

I didn't have to add anything really, for you to conclude that Obama is acting like a clown. I essentially just presented the article... you drew the appropriate conclusions on your own.

It is Obama's own words which trip him up...

The democrat "party of the people" are truly a unique species. We now know that some of them have the idea that they are "above paying taxes".  Mr. Obama tells Americans that we have to all be prepared to suffer in these dire times and that the economy may never recover if Pelosi's spending Bill is not voted positively. Refreshing to see the "change" from the Bush politics of "fear".  And I don't know how I would be able to survive the economic debacle facing me and my family if we have to live like democrats.   I hope we are never forced to go to a place like
the Kingsmen Resort and Spa in Williamsburg.  Can't imagine having to suffer starting my "getaway" with 2 chocolate covered straberries and a half-bottle of Veuve Clicqout.  This is where our political leadership goes to "work". I wonder if Pelosi drove herelf or shared a hybrid with Schumer and Rangle?

                 http://reservations.ihotelier.com/istay.cfm?hotelid=15459

They teach wonderful economics at Harvard Law. Lets see..all spending is stimulus! Sure, as long as it's "other peoples money...like the taxpayers Sir!" Why did you allow the democrat leadership to beat up Larry Summers, an economist that you put on a pedestal during the campaign and sent him back with his tail between his legs as he cowtowed to Pelosi and Reid!

The  money going to the States in this proposed legislation to further enable their medicaid waste and continue the bloated muncipal employment is "stimulus"... for whom?..Corzine or the socialist Governor of Michigan?   Even the Congressional Budget Office says that HR1 will do more to damage the economy than help it..that in 2-3 years the heavy debt load will crowd out private enterprise (Ahaaa...that's the agenda) since Government will have to finance so much debt corporations could not compete for funds.  And this from economists who work for the majority party of the Congress!   If you walk down those wide avenues in the District and walk into one of those government offices...you get the same answer to the question..."How many people work here"?    50%!

Almost 93% of Americans are working and there is nothing in this legislation that is going to stop that number from going lower.  Buying $600,000,000 of new hybrid cars for the government!!  Gimme a break! Thankfully the auto union has no impact on Obama's agenda.  What is the breakeven these days on a hybrid...5,6 10 years?   We are getting a course in Poverty 101, and an AP course in "Wealth Redistribution".

And lets pray that the Senate completes its work on a trillion dollar taxpayer borrowed spending program before Sunday so the boys and girls of that body can go home on "break". And don't worry about them having a good time...they don't go leave with homework.

I beg to differ Sanity,as I said you misrepresented and totally took out of context my quote.
If memory serves this isn't the first time you have done that.....is your position so weak and lame that you must purposely misrepresent the POV's of others to suit your means

Sanity -> RE: Fired-Up, Obama Bashes GOP Reps (2/6/2009 2:37:53 PM)

I suppose we'll just have to disagree, mike.   [sm=tired.gif]
