Today i went to the doctor and she wanted me to get a chest x-ray.  To do so i had to take off my collar.  I did not like that at all.   I know it was necessary, but i felt lost without it.  As soon as she said i could get dressed again the first thing i did was replace my collar.

Did anyone here ever have a medical procedure where they had to take off their collar?  How did it feel to you?

Master has a collar around my heart that will not be taken off.

I had a procedure where I had to take mine off. At the time I was so pissed at her because she would not get her lazy ass out of bed and go with me, so I didn't really care.  If she had come, I doubt it would have bothered me though. Wearing the collar was a symbol of our relationship, but taking it off did not change that.

The collar is not the thing that ties you to the relationship. My father takes off his wedding ring to work on his vehicle, I'm sure thousands of people take off symbols to protect them, or get them out of the way.

I don't get it when people panic over taking off a ring of metal to get through airport security, or a medical procedure. It's necessary, get over it. It's like a child panicking when the mother has to wash the grubby security blanket... sure you like the object, but the *adult* knows that you have to put it down every once in a while.

i agree with Lynn. The collar is a symbol. Hubby put this wedding ring on my finger the same way your master put the collar on you. Taking it off when medically necessary doesn't bother me. The connection is not made of a metal ring, it is make of our two hearts.

Having gone through airport security and forgetting to take off my wedding band, trust me.  I will not make that mistake again.

After alarms go off and I continue to walk away(passing the SO), thinking I wonder what poor sucker set off the alarms.

SO:  Sir step over this way
me; What?
SO Sir if you resist you will be placed under arrest
me:  What are you talking about?
SO: Sir please place your hands above your head.
me: Will someone tell me what is goi.......

It was not fun.  But I did still make my flight

I'm not sure why an Xray of your chest required you to take off something around your neck.

I had xrays of my hips recently and I didn't take any of my vaginal piercings out nor was I even asked if I had them.

I get attached to things but I wouldn't feel lost having to take them off for good reason.

I take off my collar and ring for martial arts several times a week, I do still feel naked without them. However, it's not upsetting because it's just a symbol: safeguarding it doesn't mean I'm safeguarding the relationship, and losing it similarly has no effect on the relationship.

Isn't the important thing the fact that you have a collar, not that you're actually wearing it 24/7?

Well the collar around my heart is stromger then any he can put around my neck.  It is not that i need it, but i am used to wearing it.  The collar is not our relationship  it is just a symbol that marks me as his.

I do not like removing the tokens of our relationship, but I don't feel lost without them. For my breast reduction, everything had to be removed. I gave my father (Valyraen was not able to be there, sadly, despite our efforts) the ring I wore from him at the time and impressed upon him how much it meant to me. He kept it safe and once I was out of the recovery room, Dad helped me put it back on. I really have no memory of it being put back on, only that I asked for it and it was there.

While I realize that some people refuse to remove their symbols for medical precedures and have emerged with no issues, I do not regard it as wise and - in this sue-happy place - I'm honestly surprised that they were allowed to keep them on at all.

I think if there's any mettle in it, it'll interfere with the x ray process. Other than that I don't know.

Because it interferes with the image.  A chest xray includes or CAN include the clavicle area, where a choker-style necklace would rest.  Also if the collar is a hanging necklace it can hang down onto the sternum area of the chest.

If the collar or jewelry is metal, which is fairly dense, it will absorb a high amount of the radiation, and it will appear white in the radiograph, therefore it can interfere with, or obscure, something important that can/should be found when the xray is examined.

As others said the collar is not what ties you.

If I do end up collared and make it back to work... I won't be able to wear a collar at work.... as the company has decided rings, bracelets and necklaces all pose safety hazards.. due to the potential of getting caught up on equipment

I was collared in November.  I wore the very pretty collar for about 3 days.  But it bothered my neck.  I have very sensative skin, and moles (you know the freckley things) on my neck that stick out, and certain materials rubbing bother me really bad.  It wouldn't stop itching, and from my scratching it, it made it burn too.  I had to ask Sweets' permission to take it off.  He said that it was fine, and that He understood, but it still made me want to cry.  Something that I had wanted for a very long time, and I had to remove it.  I still wear it once in a while when we are together.  But I can't wear it for long periods of time.  I know what you mean.  It bothers me.  But I know that I will always be His subby, and His property.  I don't need to have my name written on everything that I own to know that it is mine.  Just like He doesn't HAVE to have His physical collar around my neck to know that I am His.
