veronicaofML -> BHM?????? (1/18/2006 8:13:32 AM)

I have a question for you. I haven't posted it on the message boards because I am too chicken to do it.

Women have coined the term BBW. (Big Beautiful Woman.)

Why is there no equivalent for men, say BHM (Big Handsome Man)?

My answer is that men don't want to turn a fault (being fat) into a beautiful quality.

Put another way, a man would want a woman to love him anyway, despite his faults. He doesn't try to turn his fault into a strength.

Women, I guess, can't look at this way.
---------------
this was sent to me in an email...
the person in hiding wished me to ask for public opinion on this.
so okay Ladies

what's YOUR view?
thank You

BHM = Beautiful Hardon Mmmnnn

Tempestspet -> RE: BHM?????? (1/18/2006 8:46:10 AM)

BHM, doesn't exist because, like some women who created BBW, some guys did not create BHM. For some reason, it's not looked at as the same thing. Guys can have a pot belly, to some degree, and it's ok. On a woman, that same sized belly, is generally frowned on.

Fair or not, right or wrong, that's basically the way it works.

hmmm... not everyone looks at it as a fault. I'm not skinny, I'm not huge. I'm what I have been told is called chunky. Whatever..., I call it fat, and they all roll their eyes at me.
Some do look at it as a fault. That's why there are people of every shape, size, color.

Health... is a different reasoning for size all together. I know a lot of skinny people...and yes I mean small!!... that are in such crappy health... I don't don't how they get around. I know some people who technically would be obese, have better heart, blood pressure, and colesterol scores than most people, no matter the size.

Hmm... I said it before that I'm not a little girl... so I guess this thread does pertain to me, though not in the extreme. By extreme, I mean I can touch my toes.... and flatten my palms to the ground about 4 inches behind me. (something a lot of skinny people can't do either... and somehow I can get aorund my fat..hmm) and tie my own shoes, in the center, not on the side cause it's all I can reach.
My opinion is that everyone's different. There's someone who likes big people, and there's someone who likes small people out there for everyone. Unless you are an ugly person inside. That...well that just sucks to be you..lol... what I have to wonder about it though, and their opnions.... is why it seems so many skinny, or fit, people are always the ones jumping up and down calling foul, at the bigger ones. Who's ego, and self esteem is on the low side of the totem pole there??? Perhaps that's the thing we need to wonder about....and ask for opinions on.

With this thread though, you will create a whole lot of nastiness.... whether it's out of insecurity, or anger, or righetous indignation.... likely all of the those combines. This is a touchy subject. Good luck, and just remember...don't take it personally, though it will likely try to get that way. But you will get what you seek.... opinions.

fergus -> RE: BHM?????? (1/18/2006 10:30:03 AM)

Men and woman are different.

100 years of culture does not replace a million years of human evolution.

And we also have within that infinate variation.

Okay, that being said ... men ... in general terms ... are visiually stimulated creatures. They look for traits in women that speak to their instinctual leve of them being good breeders to carry on the genetic line. So for men, a woman's appearance may be unnaturally important.

Women are more instinctually attracted to how the man can provide. On the deepest level, this oftne means muscle (can he be the alpha male in the tribe). In more modern terms, can he provide financially for the family.

So, the large man is less a factor to the opposite sex than the large woman is to men.

A closer anaolgy for men might be somthing like "WPM" (wonderfully puny men) or perhaps "EWH" (empty walleted heros).

either way, there are ALWAYS people that either look past these 'flaws' or even more over, do not consider them 'flaws' but consider them endearing qualities.

Actually, BHM (Big Handsome Man) is an already-coined acronym for large-sized men, I've seen it in use at least 15 years ago. It's not as commonly-used as BBW, but it already does exist. I put "Big Handsome Men BHM" into my favorite search engine, and got a lot of results, mostly dating sites, but some fat acceptance sites.

I think it's more due to men hating to admit they are fat, far more than women.

Good answer. I really like the term EWH.

MHOO314 -> RE: BHM?????? (1/18/2006 2:09:20 PM)

Hi veronica, well here is My humble $.02

Several years ago I was asked to conduct a series of classes for the New Orleans city workers designed to give them a better self esteem leading to better interacions with the public. If you don't feel good about you, you won't care about someone else--one of the things I learned as I prepared the course was how men and women view themselves--Take 50 men put them in front of a mirror and ask them what they see--100% will tell you what's right with themselves--take 50 women and put them in front of the mirror--100% will tell you what's wrong with themselves. Now add to that TV and advertising--commercials for eons encouraged that very thinking, it was a long time before you saw an ad for a diet preparation with a MAN--and a long time before a lingerie ad had a full figured woman--so "perceptions" were established and reinforced.

The ban the bra era was great--as long as you looked like Peggy Lipton or Twiggy--but if you were full figured, well...

About 15-20 years ago (keep Me honest) Women started saying, hey f*&&^ this crap, I am not a body, I am a heart and a soul--so new terms were adopted--BBW, I find it interesting though that it is assumed out of the gate that it means fat or overweight--(society and those damn marketing campaigns)--I happen to consider myself a BBW--I am taller than most women, stronger than most and have a damn good set of boobs, I am solid in frame--

( LOL ok down boy--smiles)--but men will call themselves, attractive, handsome, large--and of course "well endowed"-- well to Me well endowed means your parents will pay for the wedding--big wedding--LMAO

and you are right, men want women to love them any way...

as long as the woman is HWP

women want men to love them--period-- but they have to keep proving themselves

Ok putting on My flame retardant suit--I made generalizations here to make a point only and for the sake of brevity---we can all find examples where the above does not apply---but the number is a hell of alot higher where it does.

thanks v for a great question--

lol, thanks Cloudboy.

But while I can see that there are (for want of a more polite term) "chubby chasers" out there among we menfolk for the BBW ... there are few "poverty chasers" out there among the womenfolk for the EWH ;)

That is has, which is how Veronica may have come up with the acronym in the first place. Having heard it somewhere before.

SirKenin -> RE: BHM?????? (1/19/2006 7:46:53 PM)

I believe that men have not coined any terms related to obesity because they do not feel the need to glamorize their appearance or hide behind a facade.

The term BBW, to the best of My knowledge, originated because women are very self conscious about their appearance, for the most part, far more so than men. I guess you can say that it was a way for them to glamorize it, much like homosexuals abused the word "gay" to glamorize their lifestyle.

I am not saying it is a bad thing. I live with a chubby girlfriend and I love her to pieces. I am just giving you My take on the origins of the term and why men do not have one. I honestly do not think men care. Walk up to a big (or obese) man and call him fat and watch what happens to you.. If he does not turn around and plow you one he will probably comment on the fact that it took an awful lot of beer to get there. [:D]

"Bears" goes more into the homosexual categories. My BGD (Big Gay Dad -i made that up, not an official classification, as far as i know) is a Bear, as is his sig-other, and they met through online networking for men seeking Bears.

i had often classified hetero men as "Bears" but since seeing my dad's favorite website (by accident...), i automatically go to the gay subculture when i hear the term.

Rather than hear the term "big handsome man" The 300 + none of your bussiness lbs kind of guys go by the following

1. Little _______

2. Bear or Big Bear

3. Big Daddy

4. Hause

5. Big _______

6. Tank

Rather than read "BHM" I'd rather read "Big Handsome Man" I think it gets better noticed.
