OK, all you wild boar hunters, here's a list of "shovel-ready" projects by state.
http://www.stimuluswatch.org/project/by_state

Which ones are pork, and why? I get the feeling Merc thinks the whole thing is pork. I can only surmise he's a thrill-seeker who likes driving over bridges which are in eminent danger of collapse. [:D] But what about the rest of y'all?

Not one in my area, guess I don't get stimulated. What's new.

Termyn8or -> RE: Where's the Pork? (2/19/2009 8:45:22 PM)

Well the one area I can say I know really anything about is Cleveland, Ohio, and it looks like we ain't getting a dime. Akron seems to be getting a bit, but they are not in as bad shape as Cleveland, even with the loss of the rubber industry.

The main bridge here has been partially closed and all trucks are banned because the last inspection found that it was in very poor, in fact dangerous condition. However last year they said the Fulton Rd.bridge was going to collapse, but when they went to demolish it, it refused to fall. They tried twice with the dynamite but to no avail.

So it's all pork to me, I guess I'll be eating beef. What's more, isn't stuff like this in the usual appropriations bill ? Ok this is meant to stimulate. In that case let me ask why suburbs, some of which have higher property taxes than my house payment used to be are getting money ? The only answer I can think of is that they are stealing the money faster there than they are here.

So maybe Merc is right, it's all pork.

So maybe Merc is wrong, they are not rewarding failure, they are rewarding those more adept at stealing and exploiting.

The whole situation is getting so out of hand it is difficult not to become cynical. Sorry to not be more responsive. The other things is that bridges and all that should've already been funded, so that just about makes it all pork by definition no ?

I just hope they don't put in more of those roundabouts. I can't stand them.

Hey Hippie,

I am skimming through the projects for California, which total 1,971.  So far everything listed are roads, sidewalks, traffic lights, bicycle paths, sewers, libraries, public gyms, etc.

Thank you for the information. [:)]

It's important to understand that NONE of the projects on the stimulus watch site are actually in the legislation. Basically, this site is merely a list of potential projects. From what I can tell, it doesn't really mean anything yet.

Yeah, I don't think Hippie read that part...

corysub -> RE: Where's the Pork? (2/19/2009 11:09:47 PM)

Treally busy people, in the Capital of California, the Speakers home State.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are thousands of these "infrastructure" pork inside deals in this legislation.  You can spend days going through each one of this baloney...YOUR representative signed on to an almost trillion dollars...estimated since there has never been a government project once started that came in on budget...AND THE NEVER READ THE DAMN LEGISLATION.  Why do people ...how can people, continue to endorse this dysfunctional Executive and Congressional government that now controls our lives...and those of our families???

There is a lot of "Proposed Pork" in these items.   Just download the Excel spreadsheet and take a look through them:

http://sites.google.com/a/pheared.net/mayors-money/Home/stimuluswatch_data.xls?attredirects=0

I found at least 15 in the first two states (Alaska and Alabama) that I'd consider pork.  YMMV.

I know where the pork is...in my BELLY!
hurray for bacon and eggs!

hizgeorgiapeach -> RE: Where's the Pork? (2/20/2009 6:51:42 AM)

I'm not going to attempt to comment on the projects proposed in states I don't live in - however, I've been glancing over the portion of the list which is specific to Oklahoma, where I DO live - and I'm more than willing to comment on just how many of those 223 "shovel ready" projects are pork.  Some of them I'm more familiar with than others, and the further the projects get from OKC the less familiar I typically am with them, but I still know the areas involved.

Of the ones that I'm Very familiar with (which accounts for 160 of the 223 projects) - there are 30 which actually Are Necessary - so 130 pork.  Of the remainig 63 projects, I can make an educated guess from having lived in this state my whole life, that there are probably 7 or 8 necessary projects out of the lot.

Oklahoma is one of the states with very few projects on the list provided by that link - and frankly, if our ratio is that appalling, I shudder to think what the ratio is probably like in states like California where there are nearly 10 times the number of proposed projects (at 1900+) or even the states like Arizona and Alabama that have 700+ on the list.

The pork is in my deep freeze.[:D]
