Greetings,

I am currently undergoing treatment for the dreaded parasite
"Entamoeba histolytica." This darn thing nearly did me in. I want to connect with others who may have been infected with this thing. I am attaching a link, but please forgive me as I forgot how to do the hyperlink.

dovie here is the direct link to wiki of what you actually mentioned without digging through links

You poor thing. I do hope its been treated.

With how almost impossible it is to diagnosis according to what I read, how (Except a House episode)
did the Dr finally get the diagnosis, Process of elimination? (pun not intended)

Looks like it would make an interesting episode, ever think about sending your diagnosis to their direct website or via email? I would be happy to try and acquire a address that would get directly to the writers and consultants. My sister is in the broadcast entertainment industry.

LOLOL....thank you for the morning laugh!! Process of elimination indeed! whew. I am currently finishing the first round of medications and moving onto the liver meds. I would very much appreciate getting the direct address to their writers. It does make for a very interesting "House" episode.
I love your cat. I have a flame point siamese who also had to take 5 days of medicine. It appears we can pass this to them. He was not pleased...LOL You are most welcome to message me on the other side. And.....THANK YOU so much for your kindness!

My pleasure, I like to learn about things I dont know. Having never heard it I checked it out and how easy it is not the think this could be a problem as symptoms mimic more common ailments.

And yes I do like to word things with two different thought processes...I even made myself chuckle when it came to mind, as well you should be one of House's patients, he would have found it sooner if he didnt kill ya first as he so often says. LOL

I will see if I can dig something up on the whole program thing, and I'm sure lupus has been ruled out LOL

Im just glad your dr's did figure it out.

Since you asked, and I do this for a living, how they find parasites is by literally looking at a stool specimen that has been specially treated and processed under the microscope. It's called an "O & P" exam, meaning "Ova and Parasites". They actually look for the ova, or the eggs, and the parasite itself on the microscope slides. The reason they're so hard to find is because they don't always show up in a particular specimen. Many times it takes multiple specimens before they're found.

I should add, though it might make a good House episode, it's actually not that uncommon an infection. And usually, when a patient presents with severe diarrhea, etc. that can't be controlled by the usual medications, they'll order stool cultures and an O&P exam to find or rule out the possibility of parasitic infection. They're usually found right away, but sometimes they can be elusive and take several exams.

Thanks windchymes, I just read a bit piece and only ever read about it today.
Thanks for the professional side.
Like I told dovey, I personally had never heard of it, and just read a few bits about it and her post.

I most definetly barely have a grasp but enough to see what it can do.

Oh, I know, Faerie, and I hope I didn't sound condescending, I didn't mean to if I did! I'm just a geeky old lab tech! lol

P. S. I'm still giggling at "process of elimination", and plan to use that one at work! :) Kind of like the way we say, "Thank you and come again" when someone drops off a semen sample....

Not at all windchymes, I found it more informative.

Yeah dont ya love it when you hit the right combo of words that take on two totally different meanings. LOL
I did write that on a serious note but reread it and burst out laughing. So it had to stay.
