Sheesh this topic seems a litte elitist to me but then again what do I know, Oh wait a lot.

My question is rally Why does anyone give a shit about Joe the plumber? Really who is dumb enough to listen to a fat drunk with a foot of asscrack showing and why is he now working in the government.

This also seems to answer the OP's Question on why the rich are getting richer and the poor getting poorer. Morons in the governement. Sad to say the Senate is over run with "Joe's" mostly raised on old propaganda and scare tacticc, thay blindly follow old ideas with out thinking 'hey this doesn't sound like a good idea.' and instead thinking 'I have no clue what is going on but Im scared and getting paid a lot of money to make the wrong choice.' But really we only have our selves to blame as smart people I.E. you & me don't get involed in the political quagmire that runs this hellhole.

Of course communism and socialism don't work in the extreme....neither does pure unregulated capitalism.

Pure unregulated capitalism hasn't really been tried.  Government has been interfering with it here from the start.

It was tried and it was a miserable failure. Learn some history before making claims about history.

You and I apparently have different opinions on what "pure unregulated" means.  Don't presume to guess what I know about history.

What regulations were in place on US businesses between 1870 and 1890?

You mean interference such as President Hayes sending in troops to end a Railroad Strike?

Or the various interferences by government due to bribery etc?

How precisely was putting down the strike bad for a business? Or are you arguing it cost Pinkerton men jobs?

As to bribery that seems to indicate that capital, money, was flowing freely.

.....interesting point there. It's often said that the thing wrong with communism is that humans are too imperfect to make it work. You seem to imply that the same thing applies to pure capitalism. Pesky individuals trying to break the rules for personal advantage.

Baiscly the problem with all forms of government and/or control. A person is smart and can generaly make a good choice. People on the other hand are stupid panicy animal that undermine themselves through lack of self disapline. You give people freedom/money/power and they are going to abuse it, as everyone who has ever played a "Sims" game can tell you.

...ah, an avowal of faith. Pity how the news is full of individuals making poor choices, whether it's Conrad Black thinking himself above the law or some idiot who thought that cleaning a gun was easy.

Individuals can be stupid or smart, so can groups of individuals. Limits are important, some individuals clearly see that and have the self discipline necessary to follow them. However some do not. Basically we have two choices, social Darwinism or the rule of law.

Hence the exact reason why I said "can generaly". I hold no illisions that your average person is a total dumbass.
But on the other hand after the colapse of American they will at least provide a source of food for the rest of us. *Nom nom nom*
