So subtlebutterfly how did the management course go?

fluffypet61 -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 10:38:46 AM)

I'm thinking that FREE Y membership hurts just as much as paid...i still have to move and stretch.

i met "Tom Terrific" who showed me just 3 exercises to help my arms and shoulders.  i can do them with free weights at the Y or with cans of veggies at home.  All 3 can be done while leaning on a chair or sitting on a chair.  i'm supposed to practice every other day until i go back next week to show he how i am doing.

He also invited me his "Senior gentle yoga" class.  i may go to see what it is like.

(Tom Terrific competes in the Ironman thing in Hawaii.  I won't even talk about all the great eye candy i saw while i was there this morning.)

LOL! You will come to hate him! I had people call me all kinds of names when I first got them started in lifting. See if you can find any books by Joyce Vedral. I am sure they will help.
You will like the yoga to help work out those sore muscles. [sm=weightlift.gif]

fluffypet61 -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 11:36:11 AM)

My body does NOT do pretzels!  Nor does it balance on one foot or stand on its head.

DotarSojat -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 1:05:32 PM)

Neither beginner yoga silly girl. You will love it.

fluffypet61 -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 1:40:44 PM)

As in...You WILL like it - or else?  or you will like it - have fun?

DotarSojat -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 1:47:32 PM)

*Big grin* You will enjoy it because it will make you feel good.
No one will make you bend like a pretzel while standing on one foot. But you will take on poses designed to relax and stretch your body gently. After lifting it will be a pleasure to do a yoga class the next day. I always stretch after lifting.

fluffypet61 -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 1:50:47 PM)

Then that means you also stretch BEFORE lifting, right?  (If it is alternate days)

DotarSojat -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 1:52:54 PM)

You need to lift one day and yoga the next. But it is a good idea for gentle stretching after lifting.

fluffypet61 -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 2:06:47 PM)

ok, that's it....enough of exercise.  Time to think of supper.[sm=alien.gif]

DotarSojat -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 2:30:52 PM)

I am thinking all I have is chicken and salad. *sigh*

DemonKia -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 3:58:40 PM)

I'm a mean evil demon so I'm gonna try to make fluffy think about exercise one more time today:

Slow controlled movements, above all else in working out, go for slow carefully controlled movements . . .. You will reduce your risk of injury & you will increase the 'exercise efficiency' of whatever you're doing . .. . .

Ignore all the others rushing to get their work-outs done, or whatever, & think about all those tai-chi people, moving slowly, carefully, precisely . ... . .

[:D]

Try it for yourself: do a bicep curl or something very simple -- do a few reps fast & sloppy, don't worry about form; versus doing a few repetitions very very slowly, watching your 'form' precisely . . . . . . Notice how much harder it is to do the exercise slowly . . .. . Notice how much faster the burn comes on . . . .. .

The fast rushing types are not getting as much out of their work-out as the slow careful types . . . . .

The above is especially true of weight-lifting . . .. . . But it's true of most athletic endeavors; my favorite athletes are professional dancers, & dancing at that level is all about precise use of their instruments, that is, their bodies . .... . .

Ummmm, yep, I am the demon who likes working out . .. . . ..

fluffypet61 -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 4:01:18 PM)

Tom Terrific said to move the first part to a 2 count and then return with a slower 4 count.  Is that what you are talking about?

darkmoonkat -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 4:02:36 PM)

( <--- is thinking how her brain's turned to mush)

purepleasure -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 4:03:22 PM)

i'm thinking about hair transplants

and downloading Skype

and how gorgeous the weather here is supposed to be this weekend

DemonKia -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 4:27:58 PM)

Yes, absolutely, I'd interpret that to be a method he uses for helping the student to move in a controlled manner . . . . .

You can even try making it a 3 & a 6 count, to slow the movement down a little more, see if you can feel the effort increase . . . . .

But do stick with only pushing yourself a little bit at a time, gentle gradualness is a good thing in easing into exercise for life . . . . .

DotarSojat -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 4:28:25 PM)

There are as many styles as there are goals for lifting. I like to lower the weight slow and push fast. I don't do isolated moves but compound lifts.

I am thinking I got to finish my gym this weekend!

pissthirstysub -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 4:48:59 PM)

Why do my spiders have a death wish?

Phoenixpower -> RE: What are you thinking? (4/24/2009 4:51:12 PM)

...why has my damn cat to bring in an ugly big spider which I then have...well...to eliminate [&o][:'(]
