Kirk routinely gave any speaking fees he earned to Austin College, the committee said, and did not list them on his tax returns.
Instead, the committee said he should have listed the fees as income, then claimed them as charitable donations. The estimated effect was to reduce Kirk’s tax bill by an estimated $5,800, according to the report.
Kirk also deducted more than $17,000 as entertainment expenses for the cost of Mavericks’ tickets. The committee said he substantiated about $9,900 of that amount, and will owe about $2,600 in taxes on the balance.

When is ENOUGH ENOUGH ?

Wow, that's clearly the worst thing a political appointee has ever done. I'm surprised he isn't facing the death penalty over this.

About 15 years ago, I was forced to take some money out of my IRA just to cover some emergency medical bills. I was immediately slapped with a $5,000 penalty on my taxes. So.... Kirk, who probably earns more money than I do (the difference would probably have to be expressed in scientific notation) is having to make up a very minor fuckup of only $10k?

Get out your crosses, ladies and gentlemen! Contact the Pope! We've found a candidate for sainthood!

What a wonderful idea.  Is there anyway we can give these political tax evaders the death penalty?
Do any democrats pay their taxes?  It sure doesn't seen as if they do.

Ok...I went along with the idea that the guy who was in charge of the IRS should be able to figure out his taxes....but we're talking about a $2,600.00 error based on a couple of basketball tickets and money he gave to a good cause. Can I use the postings against him as a definition of "Tempest in a Teapot"?
