For the most part,  when someone is called skinny it is a form of a compliment since that is what attracts the media and such.

LisaCarter -> RE: Forums to lose a regular? (3/11/2009 8:42:46 AM)

Gracias subangi.
Is it insult as well?

subangi -> RE: Forums to lose a regular? (3/11/2009 8:45:19 AM)

Oh my,  not an insult at all.  It is just that here on the average when someone says, "you're so skinny",  it usually is a compliment.  That is just an observation.

LisaCarter -> RE: Forums to lose a regular? (3/11/2009 8:47:57 AM)

Gracias subangi.
I will ask no more about skinny. Upsets people.

Isn't it ironic that sometimes the biggest wastes of space are the ones that take up the least amount of it?

Hey wait a minute.....I dont take up much space and I sure hope people dont think Im wasting it
*sobs*

GreedyTop -> RE: Forums to lose a regular? (3/11/2009 9:55:28 AM)

I have been called skinny, in a non-complimentary way.. it sucks.  (of course, that was about 20 lbs ago...)

I've noticed that American's use word "addiction" to explain no self-control. Very lazy country.
Lazy? No Sweetie...hardly. The majority of us have worked our asses off to get where we are, and are still doing so to stay there.

In the simplest terms possible, an addictive personality is an emotional/mental disorder...in the same way a murmur is a cardiac disorder. It does not matter what the addiction is: sex, drugs, alcohol, food, gambling, etc. Addiction is an illness and cannot be blown off to a lack of self control.
If a loved one had a heart murmur, would you tell them to help themselves by using a bit of self control? I hope not.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: Forums to lose a regular? (3/11/2009 10:01:27 AM)

I had a drug & alcohol counselor back in the dark ages when I was newly recovering who liked to say:

"If you think will power is the answer, try using will power on diarrhea."

He was....ummmmmm....colorful.  [8|]

Is good explain. I understand addiction but with food to help craving, can you not eat healthier food than big mac to satisy addiction?

GreedyTop -> RE: Forums to lose a regular? (3/11/2009 10:06:49 AM)

sometimes, eating healthier foods isnt the answer.  Sometimes, a persons metabolism doesnt process ANY food properly/.

LisaCarter -> RE: Forums to lose a regular? (3/11/2009 10:07:59 AM)

Allow me to also point out that a person who suffers from an addiction, have their self control taken away from the addicting substance. Addiction can be to drugs, sex, food, alcohol, nicotine. I do know what I an speaking because many of my close friends are recovery addicts and several times they asked me to present them a medal to celebrate another year of clean time. I have listened tot heir history are meetings. Yes it is too damn easy to say Americans or Canadians are lazy, that may be true for a small portion of the population but please do not paint all addicts as lazy. As you have seen , many of us will have no qualms about calling bullshit when something doesn't mesh.
