Hi All - Has anyone had Synvisc injections in their knee? If so, how did it go? How long did the relief (if any) last?? How bad was your knee pain before? How is it now? Questions, questions!! Thank you for any feedback! sula

I had it. You'll feel like your knee is full of water. If you use a cane or crutches, I recommend having them with you, in case your knee doesn't feel stable after. The synvisc didn't help me, but they didn't expect it to, they just wanted to check every last possibility before another surgery.

How interesting that you posted that... my mom just had the first of 3 injections in both of her knees. She is not happy with the results as of now... in fact she can bearly walk or stand for more than a few minutes (in all fairness she just had them done three days ago) She had been getting cortisone shots in both knees about ever three months. It was a temporary fix but the doctors thought synvisc would be a longer lasting solution. Im hoping that they will improve soon, but unfortunately everyone that I have talked to (I work in long term care so I occasionally hear about it) hasn't had great success. I'll keep you posted!

The problem was when they tried it for other things hoping it would work. lostgirl, I know what you mean about the initial challenges. For a while, it really did feel odd. Then again, I was barely weight bearing before the injection, so not much changed.

WOW i'm glad i read this my rheumotologist is trying to talk me into that for my knee, i am bone on bone from cartliage loss...i just want the replacement but my ortho Dr. says im too young..(50)... it will be interesting to watch this thread!!!!

My mom is actually going for the last shots tomorrow afternoon (she had a set of 3 in each knee) the last ones she got were much less painful but it still took her about 2 days to be on her feet again. She almost didn't go for the second ones but we talked to the dr about her frustrations at a lack of improvement. The Doc told her it actually takes 2-3 months after the last shot to notice any drastic improvements, so until then she just has to take it easy and wait. There is some decent information on the shot on the actual website (www.synvisc.com) I guess it'll be awhile before I have anything to report lol.

Please keep me informed, right now i can still walk, though it is painful at times..hopefully with the weather warming i will be able to get into the pool soon to swim and build the muscles around the knee.....i don't like the idea of being laid up for a few days after each shot.....then 2 or 3 months for signs of improvement......hmmmmmi'll be interested to see how your mom does....if you don't mind.....

I feel for you. Personally, it was worth the try. If you do end up having surgery, do everything you can to get the muscles strong first. It will speed recovery and make things much easier on you.

Oh i know, i come from a family with knee trouble...my dad and brother both had both of their knees replaced...dad did the poor me and could barely walk after, and my brother built up the muscles and was bike riding 2 months later and 4 months later cross country skiing...

Hi Mikalsheart - i had originally posted this question as i was a little nervous about these injections. Thank you all for your reponses! i had the second injection yesterday, and the results are beyond my highest expectations. i had immediate and dramatic relief after the first shot, and today, my knee feels strong,solid and almost pain free - for the first time in over a year of ice packs and pain killers. Only one more to go next Wednesday. i have started dancing again - something i haven't done for months. i want this treatment to work this well for everyone... i wish you all well, sula

WOW that is GREAT.......i am so happy for you !!!!!!! i am so confused as to what to do.......i would LOVE to be off the pain pills and have my knee be pain free..... please keep me posted on how the last one goes.....and how long they last...... heart

Sula, Its good to hear you're doing well with the shots... My mom was doing well until this weekend. She's got some serious swelling in her knee... they had to drain off a bunch of fluid (and ironically probably most of what they injected into her knee) they're sending the fluids away for testing to see what caused it. Im glad to hear its working though, its encouraging!
