Hi A/all,
 
i have a large ball gag i have had for a few years and every time this slave has it in my mouth it starts to create a burning sensation within a min or so. i have washed it with soap and water several times and this still happens. It is large black rubber and even if i push myself to keep it in my mouth, it still burns even after several uses.
 
Given concerns this slave has read over some products not meeting the highest quality standards, i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or comments? At this point, i am thinking i can’t wash it more than i have and perhaps should throw it away.
 
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Throw it away. The plasticizers (Sp?) they use to keep it soft are burning your throat, there's no way to get the taste out. :-/  I've yet to find a ballgag that works for me.

Second on the 'throw it away'. Or cut the ball off and maybe re-use the rest in another project.

A lot of things we cannot taste are toxic at low levels - parts per million. So anything that actually causes a burning sensation is potentially way beyond the threshold of merely toxic. Fillers are commonly added when rubber or plastic is molded. Adding 30% filler means they have just saved 30% on the material cost. What is the filler? Often whatever they can find. The base rubber or plastic should also be a food safe grade. If known toxins like Melamine are being used as fillers in food, what will they put in an industrial rubber?

I have read some "how to" articles on making gags with plastic tool dip. That should also be avoided. As a quick read of the ingredients will confirm, the stuff is nasty and in no way safe for use in the body (and perhaps not even on the skin).

It is really unfortunate how many large, established bdsm suppliers will sell very unhealthy junk to their customers in the name of greed. I won't name names here but I have a number of gags where the original balls were bad news. And surely the retailers knew it. Good materials don't cost that much.

thanks for Your very good advice. my first reaction was to throw the ball gag out but wanted to be sure i was not being too hasty or not cleaning it properly. i know agree there is something in the ball its self that can't be washed away, so time to toss it!

Thanks for the advice on here,  one weekends use and im covered in cold sores etc.      We'll try something else, obviously something else i react to, even if it doesnt hurt at the time.  Never occured that some of us just cant take rubber.

It's not the rubber, it's the crap they fill it with. Someone needs to fabricate and sell medical grade silicone ones... then we wouldn't have this problem.

Eh, all I can find are the pacifier type ones- and then the ones that say they are silicone, but still reek.

 Definitely toss the gag out my sweet. Some dildo's burn also, it depends on what material they are made out of. Sounds like a sensitivity to the particular type of product it is made of. You should be groaning and screaming over the pain your backside is in, not from the pain in your mouth, he, he, he.

everyone here is right throw it away and get a better quality one i recommend the subshop they have great gear

I've been having nothing but quality problems with subshop lately, can't say I'll buy from them again. I visited stormy leather and Mr. S while in San Francisco and was quite a bit more impressed by the quality of those products. Subshop does have low prices, especially with their sales gimmick but I wouldn't call their gear great.

You might try replacing the Ball. I had some Ball Gags, but have a small mouth (Yeah, Right !), and found some smaller rubber balls in a local toy shop. I cut the rivets off, and used Post Screws to put my Trainer and ball gags back together. Maybe try some better quality Balls from a toy shop or sporting goods store first. If they don't burn your mouth, use them to replace the ones you have.

Easy, easy fix! If you have a ball gag or dildo that's leeching pthalates (and yes they are highly toxic!) Just cover it with a fwew layers of Saran Wrap!!
This stops the burning sensation, bad taste, and also makes it a lot more hygienic, you can use it on others, just replace the plastic wrap!

I'm kinda relieved to see others have had this problem. I purchased three ballgags in the past year and the three different women I've played with all had the same complaint. I do have a slightly older ballgag that doesn't cause any problems...but they all described the burning sensation in their mouths shortly after the ball was strapped in.

Wrapping it in saran wrap does work, however...and I've tried that on occasion. But luckily I'm never at a loss for finding things to gag my partners with.

Regarding sub-shop....I've had pretty good success with them but it appears their recent sales are simply liquidating their inventory as many items are not currently available.  extremerestraints.com is another quality supplier I've purchased from.

I've used subshop for close to ten years. It's only recently that I've been offended by the quality of their products.

You could cut away the ball thats there and replace it with a rubber ball from a pet shop - you can pick them up very cheaply - just drill through it on each side to make "handles" that you can attach the strap of the last one from. Those balls are great - completely safe and very heavy duty [:D]

More recently I've found the 2" ball gags at Spartacus in Portland, OR has hypoallergenic ones that have no taste or burning sensation issues and are very biteable.
