Aileen68 -> Health Resolutions (1/25/2006 2:01:58 PM)

Well I did it...joined the new gym. So now I'm paying every month for a membership and figured I might as well go.
My goals are to lose weight, tone up and lower my cholesterol since I refuse to go on any statins.
Plus I have a bet with my better half. If I lose twenty in the next nine months then I win a decent chunk of change.

I also discovered that my scale at home is very inaccurate...and while I can fit into my prepregnancy blue jeans I am no where close to my prepregnancy weight. Somewhat depressing.
Any advice to stay motivated for the long haul?

Set a resonable goal, look not just for pounds but inches--as it will seesaw, understand a plateau---and realize that a woman's figure does indeed change after a baby--be happy for EVERY workout, every inch, every ounce--and trick the brain, stop when the tummy is full from a meal NOT when the brain is full for it takes along time for the tummy signals to get to the brain---so be intune to those--and reward with something that can pass quickly--elegant bottled water--a lite wine--champagne and strawberries--I put on 70 with My child and lost 75 by the time she was 6 months--it CAN be done--oohh and use your child for exercises--bend at the waist and pick child up, then put child down--- 5 sets of 10 each day will make a huge difference and go a long way to mom/child bonding--smiles

sorry for the brain dump there.

mmmmmmmm well... if you succeed... not only you do you get a chunk of money.. You can use that money to buy a plane ticket to visit myself and um well... do so more um exercises *EG*

KatyLied -> RE: Health Resolutions (1/25/2006 3:47:40 PM)

Do not weight yourself obsessively, that is a bad thing to start.
I weigh myself occasionally, and only at the gym, and not every time I visit.
Losing weight should help your cholesterol, unless you have that ugly hereditary stuff going on, then you will be at the mercy of those meds.
Good luck. I know I didn't offer any help.

Unfortunately for me it is hereditary on both sides of the family. Damn us blood type A's.
I'm trying everything else including natural alternatives before I consider meds, but it may be necessary since my cholesterol was 320 at my last doc visit.

Jersey Girl,
Your post depressed me! I'm still carrying about 15 pounds of "cruise" weight. The problem is I went on the cruise 2 years ago!

Don't concern yourself too much with the number on the scale. If you are dieting as well as going to the gym, you are replacing fat with muscle. Fat weighs much less than muscle. So you'll see inches reduced much quicker than you'll see pounds. In fact, I'd suggest dumping the scale completly or only use it once per week instead of every day.

Just stay away from 'Carmine's', phily cheese steaks, hoagies, cannolli, and instead of eating it, send one of those great Jersey pizza's to us poor displaced people living in CA where a "pizza" has BBQ chicken as a topping.

You go girl!

Aileen68 -> RE: Health Resolutions (1/25/2006 4:03:18 PM)

mmmm NY style cheescake too.
And we do have incredible pizza here don't we.
Damn...hungry now!

It took a "Jersey Girl" to "out" me!

BRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCEE!

That's it no more fooling around on CM. Next I'll be guilty of having too much fun.

Aileen68 -> RE: Health Resolutions (1/25/2006 4:33:22 PM)

Actually I'm a New Yorker...Born on Long Island, but only there until three.
So I've got the best of both states coursing through my personality.

IceyOne -> RE: Health Resolutions (1/25/2006 4:40:00 PM)

Can't offer much in the way of advice that has not already been offered. I would like to emphasize though...stay away from the scale...instead, since you are working out at a gym, measure in inches only. I started my crusade to lose weight 2 years ago, and so far have dropped almost 150lbs, but I found that the scale is EVIL. While it may show that you are not losing any, if you are measuring inches, you will find that you are losing alot.

Motivational wise...just keep remembering why you wanted to make this change in the first place. For yourself...to be healthy...for your family...to be healthy and appreciate your time with them more...and for yourself [:)]

It can be done if you set a reasonable goal. Don't expect to lose 10 to 20 lbs a week, and still stay healthy. Set your goals low; Then, if you go over it, you feel even better about yourself.

Congrats. I think losing weight and keeping it off is probably one of the hardest things to do. There are so many temptations around.

mmmmmmmm is that motivation that I am perceiving *w*

Aileen68 -> RE: Health Resolutions (1/25/2006 4:58:43 PM)

That is pure newbie knee knocking fear.
And in a strange way meant to be a compliment.

Yes, that is true. One thing I learned through the years though is that there are only as many as you place in front of yourself...much the same as obstacles :)

If you are really serious about losing the weight for YOURSELF, then the motivation is already there.

typesgirl -> RE: Health Resolutions (1/25/2006 5:03:02 PM)

Aileen: You go girl! You can do it. I've been trying to make changes too. I've kept my intake to below 2500 calories a day, walked anywhere I can, drinking lots more water.

I find that healthy frozen dinners really help. Having something healthy that's easy to make keeps me from being tempted by fast food. I also keep veggies cut up in the fridge for snacks and I found some really great lo cal ice cream bars. yumm

Your goal is to weigh 95llbs?

Aileen68 -> RE: Health Resolutions (1/25/2006 5:43:52 PM)

No...my scale was really off. I'm almost ten heavier. My goal is 105. I used to weigh that about ten years ago when I was in the best shape of my life. Don't forget I'm only five feet tall.
