Isn't it ironic that the more I come to these social sites and meet people and try to meet like minded people, the more I meet people that I don't want to know from Adam?

Between spam, webcam chics, and people that want to talk about everything but the theme of the board they are on, I feel like I am learning that I just don't like people. Except, I have friends and family that I do like. When I first got on the net at 1200 baud, I couldn't wait to log on to local chat boards and ddials, and AOL to chat with people. Now I reflexively ignore everyone. As I look back on it, the internet has changed in so many ways. Many are amazing, but just as many are creepy, and pushy, annoying, and harmful to your computer.

I wish I could go back to 1990. As much as I like the speed of the internet, I think the slower speeds of yore meant that when people wanted to say something, it was something worth while. Nowadays, I can label 199 out of my last 200 e-mails crap. I can't log onto other social sites without getting bombared by friend requests from people I don't know or care about, or getting e-mails that don't even make sense.

Now these sites have all of these games and add ons where you have to badger friends and family to play along with you. Yeah...I've gotten sucked into a few..but the majority of them are crap that I wouldn't waste a brain cell on. (Beer is a much better use of a dead brain cell..) Even when you want to add friends, I find thier search engines clunky, and it makes it difficult to do so.. (especially when you are a photographer with 70 plus pages of friends made up of friends, people you've worked with, and people you want to work with).

My friends don't contact me that much, because they can't stand it either, and are barely ever on. And any time we want to socialize, we do it the old fashioned way..we hang out.

If it weren't for that, I'd think that I am the one thats anti-social. I've met a lot of people because of the internet.. But lately, that has slowed down, and I feel like I'm hearing from more and more people that I DON'T want to meet.

Am I alone in this?

No you are not alone. I lose respect for humanity every day, both in live public and online. People are over rated.:)

No, I wouldn't say that fits into the definition of irony.

There's your solution - spend less time online and more time hanging out.
