Sadly,,, what the hell's going on in our society is this:

When you live in a society/culture   that refuses to hold people accountable for its actions...no more boundaries, or sense of right and wrong.  When welfare broodmares can just pop out one fatherless/homeless child after another, KNOWING full well that the government (i.e. YOU AND ME) will be forced to pick up the tab...

When banking institution, and investment house after investment house can flush Hundreds of Billions of dollars, retirements, mortgages, college funds.. right down the drain, with ZERO Accountability...  And are instead rewarded with MORE taxpayer dollars to devour...

When there is NO Government agency enforcing border control or securing our borders to any noticeable extent and Janet Napolitano now wants to call what USED to be known as Terrorism .....  "Man Caused Disaster" - not kidding - look it up...

When high school students can receive a diploma and still not understand basic mathematics, that YOU is not spelled "U", the concept of subject verb agreement, that IMPACT is NOT a VERB...  or even be able to tell you what countries border us to the north and south...

When people can break into a house..   and when they're shot ..  then take the OWNER of that house to court....sue..... and have THAT PERSON found guilty and imprisoned for defending their property...

This System of No Accountability..  this system where there are NO Consequences for poor or toxic decision making..   brings with it a horrific "disconnect" ....  for which we are now paying the price.

This system that says if you eat too much fast food and get FAT…..then it’s not YOUR fault….it’s the fault of the Fast Food companies.. Sue them and get rich!  (zero accountability)

This is the reason that someone can pick up a gun and just arbitrarily kill people.. because consequences no longer mean anything.

THIS ...is the reason that our banking structure is in the toilet..  our schools are crap.. our politicians can FORCE us into a phony ponzy 'retirement' scheme, under which they THEMSELVES will never suffer... and incidentally have the nerve to sit back and point fingers at Bernie Madoff, who did exactly the same thing - only HE didn’t do it under cover of the capitol dome..       (no one is held accountable for any of this, and still we wonder why... )

This is why evening news broadcasters can do features on the 'City's most dangerous intersections, without once ever mentioning the UNconscious, Distracted driver...  or the part about those Evil Guns, with absolutely no focus on the person who pulled the trigger.

This is the reason that people do things like this - because the concept of No Consequences has been nurtured and coddled to it’s logical end: the point of madness - (start mailing teabags to your elected representatives NOW)

Frankly that's bollocks
The issue is, America is rife with weapons and when someone loses it, this can be one of the consequences.

I don't see this as being the root of the problem at all.  Shooters like this either committ suicide, are shot and killed by police or go to prison.  All are serious consequences.

But none of that brings back their victims.

It is disgusting to you, but it is the same behavior to turn it into a political debate on gun ownership as well. Yeah it is both pretty disgusting.

It's that this kind of tragedy is feasted upon as a sign that society is perfect that's disgusting, Orion.

You are either naive, didn't think before posting or being less than honest.

The disassociation that many have, concerning events such as this, is part of the epidemic that is the root of tragedies such as this. Maybe I am getting long in the tooth, and have too colorful of a past for the kind of bullshit I see posted.

You baited, someone nibbled, and now the feeding frenzy will start. Yep it sure looks evolutionary to me.

Rule, you are getting and have started just what you wanted, and kitten is enjoying it as well. Some people lost their lives, and you are baiting and shit for grins and giggles. That tells me a lot about our society.

Heretic, you should have never went for the bait man. The outcome was so predicatable.

No, I wasn't baiting and I really didn't want it.

Just predicting it.

Just like I am predicting we are going to have 20 pages to follow debating the second amendment.

Yeah, I guess there's a certain logic to that, no doubt about it. Like that Steve Earle song, The Unrepentant, where the badass dude goes down to hell to find out just how bad this devil fella really is. Devil says, "Now, what you come here for?", and the guy says, "Man, let's just get to it." Might as well just get right to it. I love Steve Earle.

Personally, I agree. In a clinical sense. I watched 2 grandmothers unravel completely over a period of several years, and was grateful when they each passed. But on an emotional level, I don't think i could ever find any gratitude in my heart for anyone who murdered someone I love, no matter what the circumstances. I'd want to cut the cocksucker's throat with a dull knife.

But anyway, I didn't say what i said because I was disagreeing with you. I was just sayin', that kind of observation's going to have a definite effect on the direction the discussion goes from there. But, it sounds like you knew that when you posted it, and I've got nothing to tell you that you didn't already know. You'll probably catch a fair amount of crap in this thread, but none of it will be from me. Rock on with yer bad self.

The right to die with dignity is one thing.  Being shot down in a mass homicide is an entirely different way to go.

Not a real politically correct sentiment, I agree.  Which is why it would be a very quiet sort of secret.  The sort of thing they will even lie to themselves about, maybe, and feel guilty about.  If any of these victims were in the late stages of Alzheimer's, good people who have been tortured may be finding a twinge of relief on their conscience.

...bit of a red herring though TH, eh?

Now, i read somewhere that per capita Canada has more guns in circulation per person than the US....with a tiny fraction of this sort of gun crime. Why? How come these two countries, right next door to each other, seem to have such a difference? Why does this sort of thing seem to happen so much more often in the US? Can't be purely a gun issue. That's just the means. Not the cause. Why do so many Americans, relative to Canadians, seem to go down this violent route?

As soon as I heard this news story on the radio, My first thought was, why in the hell would anyone specifically target people who are at such an age/condition that they are in a nursing home and are dying anyway.  I'm weird like that.  I always want to think that there's some kind of logic, even when there is none.

Then, it occurred to Me.  Schools, done.  Restaurants, done.  Post Office, done.  It was either a suicide by cop idea or the guy just wanted to make sure he'd be talked about.

i have long known Canadians to be far superior to Americans, intellectually, psychologically, ideologically. i blame all the junk food down here.

Funny thing, Kitten.  I went downstairs for a cold beverage before I replied to RML's attempt to make this all about those baa-aaad, baa-aaad, guns.  The Discovery Channel was showing a bit of documentary footage of a band of chimpanzees attacking a nearby band.  They cannabilized one of the ones they killed.  Maybe it isn't just our species...
It would have really been cool if one of the Chimps had opposable thumbs and an automatatic weapon .So much more efficient.

I think you are on to something there, Lady Pact.  Some criminals want to achieve a high level of notoriety and seek attention.  It's a sick kind of logic though, like trading cards for serial killers.
