Depending on the drug used, the time the drug stays in his system and how it's secreted will vary. My advice....go to the nearest bookstore and pick up a copy of a 2009 drug book (they're pricey, $30-40 for the good, concise ones). Look up the specific chemo drugs he's getting (your doc's should be able to give you the names) and those books should give you not only the half life, but also tell you what you need to be cautious of in terms of how the drug is excreted. In my experience, which granted, hasn't been a lot as I'm an RN on a surgical floor and not an oncology floor (however, I have 3 different friends from nursing school who are oncology nurses), people who are getting the super harsh chemo treatments which are excreted through sweat, saliva, blood, urine, and feces, are generally hospitalized while receiving that treatment because they can't be exposed to people who don't know how to take the proper precautions. My uneducated guess would be to wait a couple of days after the treatments and play only to a level you're both comfortable with, and to take basic precautions such as using condoms (and I would personally avoid swallowing his sperm, unless I read in the drug book that the drug wasn't excreted that way). PS...I suggest buying the book rather than just getting the names of the meds and looking them up, because those things are dead useful to have around in situations like yours and can answer a LOT of questions you might run up against while going through this. Also, my thoughts and prayers go out to you both!
