Talk about reading into Crush...I wrote I got shot at....not shot.
Seems like a small distinction but let me assure you to me ,at the time it was a huge distinction.
As far as hanging out with criminals.I/we were young and I make no apologies for my youth...it is part and parcel of who I am...a child of the 70's who grew up in a neighborhood with way too much drugs and too little parenting.Perhaps growing up differently would have produced a different man and just maybe a less involved father....my experience led me to a beleif that I ,as a father could not be in any way shape or form too involved  in my own sons raising...he is honor roll at NYU so all is good.

Glad you weren't hurt and they missed.  I grew up in the 70's, college then as well.  But I was fortunate enough to avoid that scene, though many around me were into that.

I have raised three children of my own.  "Porridge children" I call them...one was too hot, one was too cold, and one was just right.

I was involved with them, from skating lessons to umpiring and coaching Little League.  Volunteering at their school, since my job is flexible.

And yeah, one didn't keep straight (too hot) and caused me serious heartache, which I hope no other parent has to ever endure, but I know they do.

All three are doing extremely well now.  Two are married, good jobs and futures.  A third is unmarried with a good job.   Even in this economy.

Each one knows how to use a firearm.   How to respect it.

I'll correct my response to rule as well.  My apologies for my confusion.

Some questions for you mike:  A) have you ever been face to face with a pistol?  B) Been pistol-whipped so that it leaves permanent jaw damage?  C) Have you ever driven to a bank and found out you can't go in because it was robbed 15 minutes earlier...and you were delayed 20 minutes on the phone on your way to the bank?

I can answer YES to each question.  And that is one reason I decided to carry a firearm.   I may not win, but I won't go whimpering.

Some questions for you Crush:  A) have you ever been face to face with a hurricane?  B)Been tossed around by its winds leaving permanent damage to your home?

I can answer YES to each question.

And that is one reason why my home in Ohio has hurricane shutters and hurricane-resistant construction.

You can never be too careful!!!!!!!!

rule,
my response to slvmike was meant for you:

I live in Florida.  I *know* hurricanes and have had to make repairs to my home, survive without grid power, etc, etc, etc.

And yep, the boy scout in me won't let me be unprepared.

Hurricane Ike did a number on Ohio.

Prepared to what extent?

I live here too, which is why I used the ridiculous idea of hurricane shutters on my Ohio home.

There is such a thing as taking things too far.

And I believe too far is when anyone believes that our society is so dangerous they need a loaded gun within easy reach.

Yes, a gun is a tool.

A tool that easily facilitates the twisted ideas of those we seem to be seeing in the news on a daily basis.

If this would be any other situation where mass-murders were occurring can you honestly tell me you would be defending the murder weapon?

USA TODAY ARTICLE

This article may be of interest to some.  It claims to clear up some myths surrounding the kids and ideas.
