Start off by talking to your doctor. Only a doctor can give you the correct medication in the correct dosages.

no offense here...but quite honestly your best bet is surgery not hormone treatment. You are too old to be able to allow for the proper natural growths to occur. Just isn't going to work out the way that you want. Sorry but it's true. Doesn't mean you can't live your life as a beautiful woman regardless but hormones aren't going to produce in you, in a good overwhelming majority of cases, what I would imagine your ideal is.

Secondly, most doctors won't even talk to you about it seriously or have any clue the best course for your ultimate goal. Your best bet would be to find your local gay and lesbian support group (yes I know this is especially hard for those of you who associate as female and are not homosexual but they are the best place to go for information in this area) and they will be more than happy to get you the literature, references, and resources you need to go in whatever direction you would like.

Best of luck on the transformation.

A doctor is the only one who can prescribe the medication, and if you're serious about transitioning then I'd suggest you find a TG friendly psychologist too. I've got quite a few TG friends in various stages of transition, and have seen older men take hormones and grow some decent breasts. Talk to your doctor.

If breast development was the sole reason for hormone therapy, I would agree with you. But that is not the case. The additional benefits of HRT include the following :

- reduction of body hair growth
- changing the distribution of subcutaneous fat, especially in the face
- cessation and possible reversal of male pattern baldness
- alteration of facial skin texture

A person shouldn't even be shopping for doctors to prescribe hormones until after they've spent some time with a shrink familiar with gender matters. Most docs won't (and shouldn't) consider prescribing hormones before

Most gay/lesbian folk don't know the first thing about trans folk or what their specific needs are. Thankfully, there are several trans organizations and support groups in British Columbia that would be a significantly greater resource for niceone. Entering "british columbia transsexual resources" into Google will give a good starting point.

Again, you can take my post with a grain of salt as I am living in the genitals of the US...

I understand also the other added benefits and also there smaller and smaller effectiveness the further away from growth periods that you are. Perhaps things are different around here, because here the GLBCC actually gives counciling and information/literature to review before even going to a psychologist or doctor.

I'm in the US as well. I lived in San Francisco and Boston for the last 20 years. The British Columbia information was posted for the benefit of niceone.

This is mostly the case with breast development, the other benefits still present and aren't as affected by late onset of usage.

That's a good thing, but a community center is a slightly different animal than a gay/lesbian support group.

Back to the original post. I'm not saying that HRT alone is the only answer here. A combination of HRT and surgery would produce the best results. Surgery alone without the benefit of anti-androgens at the very least, would make for a very rocky transition.
