Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. Just don't worry about supplements beyond taking a reputable multi vitamin if you think your diet isn't as balanced as it should be.

Well, you certainly proved me wrong about being a scientist.  (good thing I wasn't claiming that)
I'm just saying oxidation results with oxygen and a toxin (or substance we don't need).  I'm also saying I believe antioxidants can help in the process of oxidation.  I don't claim to be the reason for my husband's success.  If you were to ask him, he'd stop you cold (or stop me cold) and say it was the work of the Lord. (but thats a whole other debate on a whole other thread, which I wouldn't partake in)

Oxidation occurs with things that aren't toxins. It is an absolutely essential part of your metabolism. Yes, too much oxidation can damage things in your body and antioxidants serve to regulate that process but supplementing with large doses is useless. Eat a balanced diet and you will get all the antioxidants your body will absorb.

Your point is taken, DomKen.  Like I said from the beginning and through-out, alternative or natural medicine is not the end-all to everything.  I believe that eating a balanced diet, staying away from all the things we know we should stay away from, is part of keeping healthy.  I do also, believe in the benefits of supplementation.  Not so much with herbs (I will leave the drugs to the pharmaceutical companies), but with vitamins, minerals, enzymes?  Yes, I believe.  (besides, its my money and it soothes my conscience) [;)]

And what I'm telling you is, if you eat a balanced diet and get outside in the sun for a bit each day, our bodies photosynthesize vitamins D and K, you don't need any supplements. Even if you do take a supplement be realistic it isn't going to prevent cancer recurrence or treat AIDS. If you're not actually getting all the nutrients you need you may absorb some from the supplement, note that most supplements provide the vitamins and minerals in not terribly absorbable form, but mostly you'll be producing vitamin rich urine.

Useless products do not cause death (unless they sell poison that is not the case). Placebo effect is well known to cure diseases. My point is: use both with great caution.

Some people cannot absorb nutrients from food either. It is an individual thing. One person telling everyone what to ingest or not is ridiculous. What is good for one is not good for another.

I mean I feel strongly about not eating or cooking out of aluminum, it is highly unstable metal and not a happy place in the human body. I know loads of people eat out of aluminum and seemingly nothing happens to them. I think supplements are really cool. That is how I feel about it.

I try to eat right but then again mostly I try to listen to what I want, what I really, really want. The thing is past pollution needs consideration. I read that somewhere and it made a lot of sense. I was brought up eating the weirdest stuff and the hot stuff out of all aluminum pots. Sometimes I just gotta have... whatever it is. For me I know it is good to go eat that thing I am craving. Past pollution is needing it so I heed that.

When I follow along like this, going by my feelings, what feels right to me then the crap stuff falls more easily away. I dont want those things anymore. The process works well this way, for me. I take supplements, I eat good food and I listen to what feels right to me.

A strong immune system is part of what we need to ward off all the gnarly diseases. I have my ways of building my immune system and I wish all you good folks a good and strong immune system too.

I doubt the numbers. In any case, it should be viewed as an isolated incident and not be used as an argument to tear down alternative medicine. The conventional medicine has narrow focus to reduce symptoms rather than cure the diseases (for many reasons related to time and money mostly). Alternative medicine has great potential especially in the area of chronic illnesses.

Isolated incident? How many examples would it take to establish that it isn't? How many homeopaths pushing distilled water as a treatment for anything will it take? What about all the other vitamin salesmen making false claims? How about the colonics movement? What about the anti vaxers and the people chelating autistic children?

As to doubting the numbers, what numbers do you doubt? The number of AIDS deaths per year in in South Afric?
