TheHeretic -> For those who didn't vote for him (4/12/2009 9:24:04 AM)

Well let's get this new section rolling a bit...

This question is for those who voted for the other guy.  How do you think President Obama is doing in his early days?  We have had a chance to get some idea of who he actually is, as opposed to how he was presented in the campaign.  What are your thoughts?  Are we doomed?

What conclusions can we draw from the number of his nominees that have either dropped out because of tax problems or took the office under a shadow of them?

Will his attempts to reach out to Iran, and reassure the Muslim world that we are not at war with him help, or hurt our "overseas contingency operations?"

For those who did support his candidacy, have you seen what you expected?

DarkSteven -> RE: For those who didn't vote for him (4/12/2009 9:40:19 AM)

Rich, I'm not sure why you're restricting this to the ones who voted against him.  I voted for him and my reaction so far has been wild agreement with some of his policies, grudging acceptance of others, and strong disagreement with yet others.

(happy because I broke rules and posted in a thread that I was specifically asked not to.  [:)] )

Shit Rich, way teo go man...you have just excluded 53% of thr general voting population.
Creating your own little "minority report'?

TheHeretic -> RE: For those who didn't vote for him (4/12/2009 10:10:55 AM)

I asked the way I did because that's the question I'm most interested in seeing the answers to.  You guys will please note that I did include a follow-up question in the OP for people who did support him.

I had two main issues that caused me to support the other guy last November.  The first was President Obama's lack of life experience that would have helped prepare him for the tremendous burden he now carries.  Second was my opinion that his core ideology, his beliefs about how things work, is wrong.

What I'm trying to work out now, is his learning curve.  How many times will he get it wrong on his first swing, only to correct later, before he takes the lesson and makes the right decision the first time?

Rich,I was only kidding with you....how you word the threads you choose to start is none of my business.
You have my blessing to ask away....lol

Owner59 -> RE: For those who didn't vote for him (4/12/2009 9:11:07 PM)

I`m not 100% happy. On most things I`m very happy and on a few issues, not so happy.

My favorite Mayor Ed Koch used to recommend taking one`s ten most important issues and see where someone falls regarding  them. He would say it was pointless to base everything on just one/two issue(s).

UncleNasty -> RE: For those who didn't vote for him (4/12/2009 10:17:56 PM)

You voted for someone else Owner?

He appointed Geitner as head of the Treasury. What a bone headed thing to do. And indicative of him representing more of the same. See Bill Moyers Journal, interview with William Black, of 4-3-09 to get an idea of that.

RealSub58 -> RE: For those who didn't vote for him (4/12/2009 11:36:31 PM)

"him."  =  Obama?

I was very surprised to learn that my Sir voted for the other guy. McCain. He seems quite liberal in many issues, conservative in others.  He knows history and current events more intimately than he knows me. I can say that.  2 yrs is not anywhere close to his knowledge over a lifetime.

What I do know is that as Americans we vote the change ticket.
When promises are not kept and things evolve on the home front or outside our borders and things are just shitty  ...........  then you sigh "what a f*kin jerk or you grunt, cuss and say nothing cause you voted for him.
When we do not approve of what is being done, the naysayers were the praisers in an earlier day.

Americans are never happy and find fault with everyone who is in government.  Just pick on the president, voted by the collective who were once praising him and will eventually bury their heads in shame or disgust.

It's cyclic.  Happens every 4 or 8 yrs.

Obama already fucked up.  He gave a bailout to the rich and the trickle down effect is higher unemployment.  He handed idiots who need idiots who need more idiots to be financially responsible !! [:@]

Those poor peons (including me) who can't seem to make more than 35G a year, while Obama bails out those who make 6 figures and could give a care to their neighbor who has no health insurance cause it costs too much and the cost is only going to go higher.
The employment rate will look like a mustard seed compared to the ginormous group of those who will never be able to afford health insurance.

He hasn't done a damn thing I agree with, and disagree with everything from his crook Cabinet selections, to his extremely out of control spending.

As I said Uncle N,I`m not completely happy.

I wasn`t completely unhappy with bush till he started exploiting the 9/11 tragedy and abusing our GIs.It took quite a while to be radicalized by the neo-cons.

I believe Gietner will prove a good pick.Even though he`s a bush appointee,he`s no neo-con.He was brought in by a desperate bush to rescue the economy from the actual bush neo-cons, that let it fail.

Does anyone remember that deer in the headlight look bush had when the crisis hit?All the swagger and pompous strutting was mysteriously gone. That infuriating condescending patronizing way he`d "explain" things as if we didn`t know and he just learned it,.......gone.That stupid childish snicker......gone.

In it`s place was a "serious as a heart attack" effort to get the right guy in place (and not a republican hack ie Phil Graham type) and a new found humility.

Gietner was that pick.I trust President Obama and will give him and his admin. an even chance even though I`m not 100% happy.

Well at least he is ,in your eyes anyway, consistant.
Logic dictates if he ever does something you approve of...those of us who voted him into office will be pissed off!

UncleNasty -> RE: For those who didn't vote for him (4/13/2009 12:50:03 PM)

Owner,

Myself, and others, beleive that Geithner is a continuing part of the problem. I doubt he will prove to prove an effective advocate of the people in his performance. I think if you researched his hsitory and background you would come to the same conclusion.

Have you yet viewed or read the Moyers interview of William Black? I suggested that due to the credibility of Black himself as a former regulator, but also for a pretty good synopsis of how and why things are now happening as they are.

I've seen the question several times, and in several different places, "If not the guys that are still pulling the strings then who SHOULD be appointed, and given the power and authority to get try and get us out of this mess." My answer is, simply put, those who saw it coming well before it got here. They aren't that hard to find.

Yes

servantforuse -> RE: For those who didn't vote for him (4/13/2009 5:58:51 PM)

I didn't vote for him but he has done a couple of things that are right in my mind. He left it up to the Captain of a Navy ship to do what had to be done last Sunday. He has also not stopped the so called illegal wiretapping started by the Bush administration after 911. Maybe he will be a little more moderate that I thought he would be..
