This problem has been in the local news with people who purchased brand new houses in a neighboring county only to find out they were sick from the drywall. It is bad enough that we have humidity here in Florida and yet, be sick in their own homes with drywall smelling like sulfur

First China imported toys with lead, then the pet food with melamine, and now this drywall. Perhaps, not everything from China is safe today.

Florida US Senator Bill Nelson wants a recall of all that Chinese drywall.

With somewhere around 30,000 houses having been built with that stuff, who does he think will be paying to, for all intents and purposes, rebuild all those houses? In many of them, it's not just the drywall that needs to be replaced; it's also the plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC systems, and in a few cases, personal effects (jewelry, electronics, etc.).

I feel for those home owners who had no idea as to the source of the materials that went into the building of their homes. In my experiences, most potential buyers aren't concerned with the manufacturer of the drywall; just that they have walls. So, who's financially responsible? The home builders? The materials certifiers? The building inspectors? The local governments responsible for building codes? The US Federal government?

I hear it's a Chinese conspiracy also the Chinese are supplying weapons to pirates to distract the US away from other world issues according to Foxy News.

PaHunk, this is why I don't buy *anything* that says "Made in China" on it.
I just walk away.

So you'd be inspecting the bills of lading for your drywall?

Thorn, funny you mentioned that. When I bought this condo in 2004 "pre-construction" I specified in the contract when we signed it that all materials would come from the U.S. and that all labor including sub contractors would be U.S. Citizens.
The builder had no problems with those directions.

It's sort of funny that you believed him.
