DarkSteven -> Obamas living next door to you? (4/17/2009 9:31:14 PM)

There's something about the Obamas...

When I look at him or his family, I keep thinking that I'd love to have that family living next door to me.

The Obamas seem like a picture-perfect 1960s family except for their color - Cliff Huxtable Goes to the White House.

Is this just me?  I'd especially like to hear from those who disagree with his policies - how do they view him and his family as people?

DomImus -> RE: Obamas living next door to you? (4/17/2009 10:18:54 PM)

I'd think they'd make great neighbors. They seem like good people. I love the new dog. No, I don't agree with his policies but I'm sure most of my neighbors do and I enjoy living around most of them, too.

I dunno, I hate kids.  Just him and his wife though, I think they'd be awesome neighbours.  I could totally see having them over for a bbq, or to watch  a football game, or borrow a cup of sugar from on occasion or something.

The family?  No problem.  The Secret Service would be a real pain in the ass, though.

You would never believe the security around their home here. You need to live on the block or be an expected guest to simply walk down the sidewalk.

I'd love to have them as neighbors  :)

At risk of 'outing' myself, I voted Green last November, so technically I'm not so much a supporter as a possible admirer . .. . . . & I've been following the new administration with some gleeful hope . . . . . But anyways, this article (about the Obamas as new residents of DC & the White House) was quite charming -- I especially love the pic of the president ringside at a basketball game, drinking a beer:

Could It Really Be Him?

MarsBonfire -> RE: Obamas living next door to you? (4/18/2009 9:00:17 AM)

I wouldn't mind... but somehow, I think they'd have a problem with having a "whacky, bi,  BDSM neighbor" in their personal sitcom.  The Obama's would be perfect neighbors... except that they are so utterly mainstream, (If you'll forgive the term... "whitebread")  I doubt they'd tolerate US.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Obamas living next door to you? (4/18/2009 9:43:13 AM)

when he became president, living in Hyde Park near and around the Obama home became a security nightmare.

first you have to park 3 to 4 blocks away (good luck - parking in this neighborhood is very limitd or you need a permit sticker to park). then, you have to show ID to the security team and the person you're visiting is notified of your arrival. the person(s) you're visiting has to escort to and from their home.

sirsholly -> RE: Obamas living next door to you? (4/18/2009 10:07:32 AM)

yanno...i can just see our bull getting lose and chasing Obama and his security boys......[8|]

Vendaval -> RE: Obamas living next door to you? (4/18/2009 10:30:09 AM)

They would be great neighbors but the extra security would be a real burden.  My friends and I have talked about how warm, friendly and down to Earth Mrs. Obama seems in interviews, how we could chat with her and the girls at the grocery store or a coffee shop.  And Mr. Obama seems like many of my college professors, someone you could talk to about all sorts of different ideas and concepts.

camille65 -> RE: Obamas living next door to you? (4/18/2009 10:38:40 AM)

I just want to play with their dog.
[:D]

ThatDaveGuy69 -> RE: Obamas living next door to you? (4/18/2009 10:45:07 AM)

I could get used to the security.  It would be nice to leave doors & windows open on a warm summer night :)
And no more of those damn boom-cars thumping down the street just as I'm drifting off to sleep...
Mail delivered and trash picked up on time.  Have the SS guys over for a cook out (when the boss is out of town).
I'll bet the power never goes out on that block, even during the worst of storms.

I'll look at the advantages rather than the neagtives.

Gasp!  Maybe they're expecting!!!!!   Wouldn't THAT be something?

FullCircle -> RE: Obamas living next door to you? (4/18/2009 11:19:27 AM)

I'd prefer a detached house away from all people. Ideally I'd have this thousand foot concrete wall surrounding me, the kind that would put the one in Israel to shame. Also a moat would be nice and a swimming pool, the moat and the swimming pool must not be connected! Sadly I feel the older I get the more isolated I want to be from all people, especially those that enjoy destructive vandalism as a hobby.

The Obama’s would make good neighbours, I have the impression they are very good people they would be fee to use my moat/swimming lane.

sirsholly -> RE: Obamas living next door to you? (4/18/2009 11:22:47 AM)

Well that is sweet of you, FullCircle. But don't you think scaling that wall might be a bit difficult for the young 'uns?

FullCircle -> RE: Obamas living next door to you? (4/18/2009 11:29:34 AM)

Depends how old they are: when I was 11 we went on school trips to climb mountains in Scotland. These days it's all health and safety gone mad I tells ya.[8|]

Then again half of us died before the age of 12.[8|][8|]

GreedyTop -> RE: Obamas living next door to you? (4/18/2009 12:48:29 PM)

Dave..I so agree with you!!
