I have always been overly cautious of this. Bars and clubs in London warn people not to leave there drink unattended for obvious reasons.

Unfortunately I still managed to get my drink spiked on Sat night at a fet club. Fortunately for me my partner was with me and realizing something was wrong he got me home.
I missed an entire day yesterday but have been told that the katamin will of worked its way out of my system in 48 hours.

I never thought it could happen to me but it did.... please be extra careful you guys when drinking amongst strangers.

Maria

Wow. I am so very very glad you had someone with you, that you are safe. What an awful thing to have happen.
I really am glad you are safe.

PanthersMom -> RE: getting your drink spiked (4/20/2009 3:21:04 PM)

we have to be so careful these days.  i worry about my sisters, they're into the club scene and it could just as easily happen to them.

Maria,

I am so sorry that happened to you but am relieved that you were with your partner and taken home to recover.  Can you report what happened to the club owers or the police?  It might help with prosecution if the persons responsible are caught in the future.

A few years ago there was a problem with GHB in bars downtown here and a few women were date-raped.  Always party safely folks!

lovingpet -> RE: getting your drink spiked (4/20/2009 3:27:37 PM)

Except for the bdsm club, I don't club at all. Even so, I keep my soda in my hand and the top covered with my fingers or palm to prevent this. It is a shame it has to be this way, but such is the way of things. I am sorry this happened to you and hope you are back to feeling like yourself. I think, in your shoes, I would be giving that man of yours a great big ole bear hug for his watchfulness over you (as I am sure you already have). All my best!

shivers runs down my back

I am so glad your ok, this kind of thing just scares me so much, do you have any idea who might have spiked it?

DemonKia -> RE: getting your drink spiked (4/20/2009 9:47:43 PM)

Sorry to hear about that . . . .

I live in the hometown of one of the top party schools in the US ([sarcasm on] what a fabulous distinction that is [/sarcasm off]) & the drugged-drink thing has been a big problem at the dozens of bars here for many years, especially the ones that cater to the college population . .. . .

In the last year several (incidentally middle-aged) women from our local munch community have had that happen while out at (vanilla) clubs, reporting it to our discussion list after the fact (& the respective bar managers & cops & so on) . . . . . & they were going to clubs that serve a decidedly older, non-college population, so . ... *shrug* . . . .

Unfortunately, this drugged-drink phenomena does not appear to be going away, & pretty much anyone going out should be keeping a close eye on their food & beverages at all time . ... . Regardless of where you live . . . . .

I detest the paranoia-inducing aspects of this, but . . . . . .

hardbodysub -> RE: getting your drink spiked (4/21/2009 7:55:41 AM)

I sympathize, and appreciate you posting the warning to remind people of the danger.

I'm curious, though - how do you know what it was? And why would anyone spike a drink with katamin? I hadn't heard of it, and after a little research found it to be a "surface antiseptic", or a "wet paraffinating agent for all yarns". Maybe you mean "ketamine" (acepromazine), which is used as a horse tranquilizer, as well as for dogs and cats?

GreedyTop -> RE: getting your drink spiked (4/21/2009 8:55:06 AM)

ketamine, here in the US is a popular date rape drug.

Missykink -> RE: getting your drink spiked (4/21/2009 9:36:35 AM)

I'm sorry to hear what happened.  I had my drink spiked about 4 years ago in a vanilla night club.  I was a recreational drug user at that time but I hadn't taken anything that night except alcohol and only one pint at that!!!  Within 10 minutes of having my drink I felt myself slipping into a daze that I can only compare to the starts of ketamine or ghb/gbh whichever the spelling.  I knew something was wrong and was able to tell one of the bouncers what had happened.  They were really good and sent someone with me to hospital where I just had to wait it off.  Not at all big or clever, whilst I have taken both of those drugs willingly I would never ever do them out in a club like that and felt very scared and out of control.  I didnt go back to the club for years.

Now though a lot of the clubs in our area have these special straw type things that you can get from the bar and if you put it in your drink and it changes colour then you know someone has spiked it.  I am not sure what drugs they check for altogether but definatley ghb and exstacy.

In rave type clubs that are all nighters its really easy to pick up someones bottle of water mistaking it for your own and getting a nasty suprise as a lot of them use ghb recreationlly and for clubbing.  I have to say though its not a pretty sight watching someone who has taken too much ghb and is fitting on the floor and soiling themselves!!!

Keep safe x

Maya2001 -> RE: getting your drink spiked (4/21/2009 8:50:53 PM)

Spiking drinks used to be a big concern when I used to go to clubs around 30 years ago with the types/names of drugs used then were different from today..so I used to go out in a group with several others ..we would go early so we could get a table usually right near the dance floor..then we could not take a drink on the dance floor or outside the club if we wanted to step outside to cool down or for fresh air... so as a group we had agreed upon safety rules..you let the group know if you were leaving the table and for roughly how long....someone would always stay at the table... if you went up to dance you could still help keep an eye on the table and drinks....we would go home as a group..if you met someone of interest that you wanted to follow up with then you would make arrangements for another day as in setting up a date..that way guys that were hitting on you learned that getting you drunk or stoned was pointless and a waste of money as they are not going to score because you are staying and going home with the group that you came with

It worked well for us I used to got to quite a variety  of clubs back then and none of the ones in the groups I went out with ever ended up having their drink spiked at a club
.....I was not quite as cautious at private house parties and assumed because they are smaller venue and I knew  someone there that I would be safe from that risk and I paid for that one

slaveofHisDomain -> RE: getting your drink spiked (4/22/2009 2:07:02 AM)

I was like you, always careful about watching my drink.  One night I screwed up and didn't go with friends to the bar.  I had my drink spiked then proceeded to be assaulted outside the club, then raped a little while later.

It's a very real problem, and it amazes me that so many don't take the threat seriously.  For me the worst parts were actually having some clue about what was going on at the time, but losing part of my memory after.  I still have some parts missing, I just wish I could forget more of it honestly.  My entire life changed that night, and I have never been the same.

Good warning for others, I am glad you had someone with you to protect you.

Dear Maria,

Thank you for having the courage to bring this to the surface.  A lot of folks would be surprised how often this really does happen.

Last October, I had something similar happen.  It is at least the partial reason why My local group has now adopted the policy of why one board member will not agree to meet someone hoping to join the group who has no references.  We now have it stipulated in our group charter that there will be no less than two when going to a meeting.

Somehow, I managed not to be lost and have terrible things happen to Me.  In the induced state, I managed to drive My car, until I was too far gone and I crashed it.   I have only fleeting references of how I got home.  Thankfully, something clicked in My brain.  I take no credit for that rather than the roll of the dice.

This does happen.  Please protect yourself.

allthatjaz -> RE: getting your drink spiked (4/22/2009 6:28:38 AM)

Thank you for all your responses and advise. A special hug for those of you that have had it happen to you and especially to nee who endured rape as a consequence of this.

My friends think (from what I described that it was GHB) and I really don't think it was intended for me as I was so obviously with my partner. Fortunately I didn't finish my drink but even so it knocked me sideways, lose all track of time and space and eventually sick and with a headache that no medication would touch.

I know you can buy packs of those special straws and thats the first thing on my shopping list the next time Im in town.

I'm glad you are alright and that someone was with you who took care of you. Years ago some bastards spiked my beer with LSD - I spent the entire night hallucinating, and my then 'boyfriend' abandoned me in a public park in Brixton in the middle of the night. It's a miracle I made it in one piece. When you don't know you're taking something so potent, the effect is all the more terrifying: you think you're losing your mind.

I sympathise with you. Spiking drinks is a disgusting, cowardly, evil practice - I don't know what the hell people who do it get out of it. Bastards. Be safe, stay safe.

Bloody Hell KittinSol... Brixton of all places. I used to run a club at Mass in Brixton and even the security staff couldn't prevent my car from being broken into twice.

Thanks for your message

A feeling a superiority to fill the void in their otherwise drab, powerless, meaningless, lives.
As someone who once had a bad LSD trip - willingly self adminitered (I can only plead youth) - I can't imagine the horros of one and not knowing what was happening.  That bastard needs to be tied down naked next to a next of fire ants and then have honey poured on his genitalia.  This goes for anyone who spikes drinks.

You're welcome... I used to live there (five years). Never really had any problem apart from that horrible episode, I realise it's a 'lively' place... Mass! I went there nearly every weekend :-) !

The drink was spiked in the Prince Albert's beer garden. I ended up tripping in Brockwell Park. LSD can be scary enough as it is, but as Marc says, if you're unaware you're taking it... well, it's criminal. The people who do those kinds of things have a special place in my mind [>:] .

RealGirl4One -> RE: getting your drink spiked (4/25/2009 4:06:58 AM)

Overly cautious? I don't think you can be overly cautious on a matter so vital to being safe. Continue to be cautious is my advice.

RealGirl4One -> RE: getting your drink spiked (4/25/2009 4:10:50 AM)

I forgot to say I am SO GLAD you were not alone as who knows what might have happened if you had been.

A very important reminder for safety all of us need to remember. We are in your debt.
