I love teaching terms that are greater than the sum of their parts.
Guilty + pleasure = a whole new idea than the two terms seperate.
(black hole, high five, rug rat are all examples of this)

ok, enough of the boring stuff.  I remember teaching about guilty pleasures and was just delightfully surprised by the things that my (adult) students shyly would tell me were their guilty pleasures.  I explained it as things that we buy that we don't really need but bring us absolute joy to have.  Usually we have more of them than we will ever be able to use.  What are yours?

My guilty pleasures are: many tubes of lipstick, skin care products, cookbooks that I don't cook from, journals, lists.

Reeses cups, purses, buying college ruled notebooks/paper, perfume, hair trinkets, chapstick, cute undies.

Hi sunshinemiss,

Guilty pleasures...what a great topic!  One of my guilty pleasures is tea.  Herb tea, black tea, green tea, white tea, you get the idea. I have friends give me gifts of tea from their visits overseas. I have tea from Turkey, Russia, Cambodia, Peru, Ireland and some amazing "flowering jasmine" tea from Hong Kong.  I grow my own herbs to blend with green tea.
Yes, tea is a yummy and healthy guilty pleasure.

edited to add....books, hand lotion, incense and cosmetics are a few more.

Pot Noodle, homemade proper ramen, secondlife, shopping, gossip....can't think of anymore right now. may have to re-visit this thread LOL

Totally scored two of my favorite guilty pleasures last night. Henry's Orange Cream Soda and a huge box of Nilla Wafers.

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: Guilty Pleasures (4/21/2009 12:50:12 PM)

Invader Zim cartoons.

They're completely idiotic -- my IQ drops at least ten points when I watch -- but they're so funny.

shivermetimbers -> RE: Guilty Pleasures (4/21/2009 12:56:02 PM)

Going to sporting events.  I know you don't get to keep them per se, but they certainly do absolutely nothing to make my life better other than having some fun.

kuriouswitch -> RE: Guilty Pleasures (4/21/2009 1:08:21 PM)

anything with tinkerbell or jiminy cricket... just can't seem to outgrow them (and kinda don't want to)

books... i have so many that family and friends refuse to help me move and i've read all of them. most of them i read yearly and look forward to "their" time to be read.

music, tons of cd's and music on my laptop and music videos

colored pencils. don't need them. i have a whole shoebox full of them but everytime i see a box i want to buy more.. they might have a color in there i don't have. and heaven forbid i have to sharpen one, that just ruins the whole effect.

fluffypet61 -> RE: Guilty Pleasures (4/21/2009 6:09:03 PM)

Syl, I must vehemently disagree with you -- Invader Zim is good for you! It's good for me, so it has to be good for you . . . . . Hehehehe . .. . It's one of the smartest cartoons to be aired in, well, forever . . . . .. Hell, it's smarter than most everything else on teevee . . . . .

[:D]

Oh, in addition to collecting a wider sense of humor:

Books -- I always wanted to be surrounded by books, & I pretty much am, anymore . .. . . I'm afraid to guesstimate how many there are . .. .

'Fashion dolls' (Barbie, Bratz, GI Joe, & etc) & thrift-store stuff to make fucked-up art photos with the dolls as models . . . .

Pink stuff -- pretty much anything is better in pink . . ..

DotarSojat -> RE: Guilty Pleasures (4/21/2009 7:16:36 PM)

warm red velvet cake and a tall glass of milk.

LilSubKat -> RE: Guilty Pleasures (4/21/2009 7:21:46 PM)
