Another echo of the Great Depression...

"Reports: Freddie Mac official found dead"

April 22, 2009

"WASHINGTON – David Kellermann, the acting chief financial officer of Freddie Mac, was found dead at his home Wednesday morning in what broadcast reports said was an apparent suicide.

WUSA-TV and WTOP Radio reported that David Kellermann was found dead in his Northern Virginia home. The 41-year-old Kellermann has been Freddie Mac's chief financial officer since September.

Sabrina Ruck, a Fairfax County police spokesman, confirmed to The Associated Press that Kellermann was dead, but she could not confirm that he committed suicide.
Kellermann's death is the latest blow to Freddie Mac, a government controlled company that owns or guarantees about 13 million home loans. CEO David Moffett resigned last month.

McLean, Va.-based Freddie Mac and sibling company Fannie Mae, which together own or back more than half of the home mortgages in the country, have been hobbled by skyrocketing loan defaults and have received about $60 billion in combined federal aid."

Her obviously was in no financial distress, and could have quit the job anytime he felt like it.  The only explanation that makes sense to me is that he was cooking the books, and didn't want to face prosecution and prison time.

Is it possible that his death isn't linked to his line of work? Perhaps he was endogeneously depressed? Never heard of him before today... peace on his eternal spirit.

I am sure if he was, as detailed as the press is, they would have mentioned that he had a history of depression--

Me thinks this is only the beginning...

edited to change my stupid typing this morning, sorry all, meant depression--*needs more coffee*

Stop the presses.  I agree with kittensol.

And Medici, he DOES have a "history of suicide," albeit a short one.  You may have meant "history of attempted suicide."  My experience though (and it is admittedly anecdotal) is that most real suicides are not preceded by serial attempted suicides.

Not to mention what they say about vision-impaired squirrels...

UGH!!! For the life of me i will never ever understand why someone would allow his loved ones to find him like this! Hanging??!! He lived with his wife and five year old daughter!!

Crush -> RE: Freddie Mac CFO found dead, possible suicide (4/22/2009 1:34:45 PM)

Assuming he committed suicide.......<cue the music:  da duh dum!>

Maybe he was going to implicate some powerful people in Congress or elsewhere....did they check underneath his toenails for needle marks yet?

*I know it can happen....I've seen 24 on TV*

Vendaval -> RE: Freddie Mac CFO found dead, possible suicide (4/22/2009 1:45:06 PM)

I don't think so, Cat.  My best guess is there was information that could or would be made public that would destroy his entire career.

And Holly, I completely agree with you about the loved ones finding the body.  That is a terrible way to leave them behind.

Or maybe he was going to implicate Jack Bauer.  Kiss o' death.

Hmmm...you may be on to something....don't mess with the Jack Man....

winterlight -> RE: Freddie Mac CFO found dead, possible suicide (4/22/2009 5:32:05 PM)

I agree that is a horrible way to let your loved one find you. Suicide is about anger. Whether that was the case here who knows? Was he cooking the books who knows.

Conjecture is fruitless my heart goes out to his wife that found him and for their daughter that will never know her Daddy. Never be held by him, watch her graduate from college or get married.

I don't find this comment even remotely humorous.

Oh well,

Good thing we don't rely for you on our gallows humor judge, Lookie.  (oh, did I say gallows?)

It really sucks that he did this to his family.  My wife's father committed suicide when she was 16 and she is the one who had to clean his brains off the walls.  She never recovered in many ways.

BUT, as Jay Leno says, "A choice between a good joke and good taste....the good joke wins"

(I guess the operative phrase would then be; "good joke").
