Japan has an interesting solution to unemployed foreign workers during the recession, pay them to return to their home countries and not come back.

"Japan Pays Foreign Workers to Go Home, Forever"

By HIROKO TABUCHI
Published: April 22, 2009

"Japan’s repatriation offer is limited to the country’s Latin American guest workers, whose Japanese parents and grandparents emigrated to Brazil and neighboring countries a century ago to work on coffee plantations.

In 1990, Japan — facing growing industrial labor shortage — started issuing thousands of special work visas to descendants of these emigrants. An estimated 366,000 Brazilians and Peruvians now live in Japan.

The guest workers quickly became the largest group of foreign blue-collar workers in an otherwise immigration-adverse country, filling the so-called three-K jobs (kitsui, kitanai, kiken — or hard, dirty and dangerous.)

But the nation’s manufacturing sector has slumped as demand for Japanese goods evaporates worldwide, prompting job cuts and pushing the jobless rate to a three-year high of 4.4 percent. Japan’s exports plunged 46 percent in March from a year earlier, and industrial production is at its lowest level in 25 years.

So Japan has been keen to help foreign workers go home, thus easing pressure on domestic labor markets and getting thousands off unemployment rolls."

Think I'm going to immigrate to the UK via Japan, is the offer closed to new workers?

I think that might work here. Pay all of the Illegal immigrants from south of the border to go home and not return. That would include the inmates now filling up our prisons..

We don't have that kind of money.

You know, it's ironic...Democrats go nuts when American companies lay workers off and go oversees for cheap labor, but they have no problem when illegal immigrants come over here and take our jobs. Either way, Americans are losing out to foreign workers over cheap labor. Though, I must admit, if I had a choice between a union guy who thinks that he should get paid $10.00 an hour to wave a flag at a construction site or an illegal alien who will clean out the jizz booths at the local adult "bookstore" for pennies on the hour, I'll choose the illegal. Because, there is absolutely no way, you are going to get me into one of those booths. At least, the illegal will work without putting up an argument. But, then again, if they chase all the illegals out who is going to be my nanny and raise my kid for me?

Oh yes, I agree. paying somebody less than 1/2  a living wage to wave a flag is way too expensive.

As for the illegal...when did it come out that we had to pay them at all ? I mean I am an American capitalist and I want my slaves back.

I love these fora...they are so accurate.

Obama hasn't borrowed a dime yet and we know from the last admin. 'deficits don't matter.' Obama has not and will not be printing up money because our great and glorious fed is printing it up (for wall street), an absolutely independent action putting more debt on our shoulders.

I know, it's is getting really difficult to blame EVERYTHING on a man so many seem to want to hate.
