I mean baldness is usualy caused by the hair folicals dying, and so if you use real hair from other parts of your head, what would keep those plugs from dying off just like the rest of your hair?

I'm not sure of this, so I could be wrong, but I think the plugs are fake hair, so they don't need a follicle.  I think they just need to be anchored beneath the skin somehow, but I'm not really sure. Good question.

Essentially, it's that they transplant whole chunks of tissue surrounding the pores out of which the hairs grow . .. .. . Sorta like skin grafts, but hairier . . . . .

Well, it's just gross no matter what.   Men should go bald gracefully.

Bald MEN are teh hot, but as a lady with thinning hair, believe me, I will totally get transplants if I can afford it!   I really don't have the kind of head that would look good shaved...

YourhandMyAss -> RE: If you're balding , what keeps hair implants from dying too? (4/24/2009 10:05:04 AM)

Yes, I agree that I do, however I have wondered this for quite a long time, and it finally surfaced to the top of my mind when I was on collarme and was in the mood to post lol.

Well I thought it was a good question!  Sometimes your questions make me [sm=banghead.gif]  but hey, it's a free internet!

YourhandMyAss -> RE: If you're balding , what keeps hair implants from dying too? (4/24/2009 10:06:52 AM)

Some are, but with bosley hair implants they use real hair off other area's of your head, and did you know impants was first meant to be used for replacing eyebrows and eye lashes? and it was developed in the 1930's I believe? I learned that lil tidbit from the artical slaveboy posted:)

marie, I agree men should bald gracefully, but by that I mean don't do comb overs and stupid spray dyes to hide the baldness, but I think that about grey hair too. I think it's silly those commercials where the sports announcers are narrating this guys date and they're like oooooooooooh REJECTED! he should of had Just for Men  hair dye bob.

Balding runs in my Daddy doms family he's 37 and his hair line is receding up by the forhead and in the back a little bit, and his prefered method of dealing with it is not to. He just pretend it's not happening, but if it hurts someones self image and self esteme other than the horrific cost of it, I'd be ok with them getting bosly hair treatment, if they were rich or something and the cost didn't bank rupt other needs.

Now here's a question and probably should of been it's own thread, but what about women, do you think they should ignore the fact they're balding, or however you define balding gracefully? What about aging gracefully? and grey hairs and wrinkles and such?

As someone that started going grey at about sixteen years old. . . NO!  Yes I have colored my hair many times in my life.  Not for the grey so much, but because I wanted to.  There was a period of time in my life where I enjoyed having firetruck-red hair.  And that has to be re-colored frequently.

I have not colored my hair since before I was preggers.  And yes, the grey is apparent.  Since I color my own hair, I really do not want the dye fumes in the house with Butterhead.  But yes, at some point I am sure that I will go back to coloring my hair.  Although in the last 9 years, I have stayed with natural looking colors.  No more fire engine red for me.  Of course that was also the period of time when I wore purple contacts.  LOL

I know what you mean about the fumes, my mom dies her hair and when I was living in the house , you could smell this awful nose burning eye watering gag inducing chemical aroma,  all over the house,  you just could not get away from it, and of course my bedroom was right next to the bathroom, so I got to smell those "lovely yyes sarcastic here" chemical smells for hours.

she of course also go t it all over the bathtub cause she'd lean back and lay down against the back rest of the tub too.
