MichiganHeadmast -> Air Force One Backup Rattles New York Nerves (4/27/2009 8:19:27 AM)

http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/04/27/low-flying-planes-spotted-over-harbor/?hp

Excerpt:

Unaware of the planned exercise, scores of office workers flooded out of buildings, worried about the prospect of terrorism. “People came pouring out of the buildings, the American Express Building, all the buildings in the Financial District by the water,” said Edward Acker, a photographer who was at the building, 3 World Financial Center. “And even the construction guys over by 100 North End Avenue area, they all got out of their buildings. Nobody knew about it. Finally some guy showed up with a little megaphone to tell everyone it was a test, but the people were not happy. The people who were here 9/11 were not happy.”

Basically, it was a photo op.

Oops... somewhere, a ball got dropped.....

New Yorkers ought to take up their grievance over this to the wankers at the FAA who authorised these pre-planned flights.

NEXT.

Maybe they should get a bigger megaphone next time.

Wonder what the "carbon footprint" of this thing was?  Hell, just schedule another "earth hour" to make up for it.

It's hard to believe that anyone with the slightest shred of common sense would approve of an exercise like this. I know it was lower level White House grunts who were responsible but I wouldn't keep a dumbass or dumbasses like this on my staff.

I just can't wait to get a poster of that pic....regardless of who is CIC, that 747 is a sweet ride!

There will be a lot of people who read that, who will assume your kidding. I know better.

Maybe Obama used some of the stimulus money for to pay for this waste of time  photo op. Just what does it costs us to fly a 747 around New York accompanied by F 16 fighters. This administration is out of control already.

Probably about the same as it costs to fly them around New Orleans and wave out the window, maybe a bit less as oil prices have dropped.  Next question please.

So your basically ok with anything the current admin does, as long as Bush did it first? Sorry but that excuse is getting old already.

BKSir -> RE: Air Force One Backup Rattles New York Nerves (4/28/2009 5:49:31 AM)

I don't recall saying I was okay with it.  Just as I didn't say I was okay with the pot calling the kettle black.  Please show me where in my post I said that.

There have been a good number of things the current administration has done that I don't quite approve of.  There were a good number of things in the past administration I didn't approve of either.  The thing is, it gets old fast, nitpicking on every last little thing and going into an uproar when one person does it, and not the other.  The words "duplicitous" and "hypocritical" come to mind in those cases.    My democratic/liberal representatives get just as much flack and negative feedback from me as the republican/conservative ones.  Well, okay, that's not quite true.  They don't get AS much, but still get a fair amount.

servantforuse -> RE: Air Force One Backup Rattles New York Nerves (4/28/2009 6:09:22 AM)

Lower level grunts do not take Air Force One up on a joy ride without someone at the top knowing about it.

"When told of the flight, President Barack Obama was furious, a White House official said on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations"

Now that I'd like to see.  I didn't think he knew how to be mad. O.o

"The photo op was combined with a training exercise to save money, according to another administration official"

How wasteful of them. [8|]
