OHxSLAVE -> Body Hair & Weight Loss (4/27/2009 5:03:53 PM)

This question has two parts, (1) What is the most effective way to remove body hair and keep it off? And (2) I am a truck driver and I am having a horrible time losing weight. What are some suggestions to help with weight loss on the go?

CatdeMedici -> RE: Body Hair & Weight Loss (4/27/2009 5:21:48 PM)

Stay away from truck stop food, when you are hungry, you are feeding your brain not your stomach--your stomach is full 45 minutes before your brain knows it---if you are on the road, stop at fresh markets--fruit, fruit, fruit, water, water, water ( and you can keep a pee bottle so you dont have to stop all the time)--focus on the feeling in your stomach, when you feel your tummy full STOP--and stay away from the greasy spoons!

Body hair - laser removal if you can afford it.

Weight loss - Weight Watchers.  If unable, eat less calories than you burn.  Make healthy eating choices at truck stops - chicken instead of steak, no sauces, lots of fruit & veggies, no milk.

Drop in and I will shave you.

...now as to weight,.   Dump drinking soda pop= water is your friend.
It is easy.  HFCS  "high fructose corn syrup", must be DELETED!

1. avoid white, bleached, refined, flour.    Such is sugar.    So log bread of this as pastry.

Sugar in itself isnt the weight burden/

Easy fix.   Switch from soda pop to water.  and dont eat HFCS.

subtlebutterfly -> RE: Body Hair & Weight Loss (4/28/2009 9:50:34 AM)

wax/laser removal

Weightloss:
Think about what you eat, eat/drink healthy and when you're on a break from driving, workout like a motherfucker[8D]
but...last but not least...do NOT drink beer, not only is it full of calories but it's PAIN in the ass to get beer-fat off oneself, stick with wine/vodka drinks if you need alcohol but heck the best solution would be no alcohol at all.
oh..and eat 6 times a day (small dishes of course), it keeps your metabolism going and it prevents you from getting hungry and therefore you tend to eat less during the main meal-hours..oh and drink enough water (not too much though!)

and if you feel the urge to eat..have some gum or fruit instead of snacks.
Heck..when I diet - babycarrots for snacks o babyyyyyyy!

and by all means don't put too big goals, take baby steps..tons of short term goals ...the more succeeds the more motivation for you to keep on going..there's no magical solution it can take months heck it can take years, there'll be thresholds..you won't be losing weight all the time there could be a few weeks of nothing-happening-at-all before you start losing again. Be consistent, your mind is your biggest enemy.
Good luck[;)]

OHx, yes, get a case of "Propel" fitness water and drink that instead of coke/pepsi etc.
One bottle only has 25 calories as opposed to 200 with a coke! And they have a bunch of differant flavors too, Berry, Melon, Lemon, Grape etc and it's very good.
If you're on a stopover for a day or so take a nice long walk around the area if it's safe to do so.

barelynangel -> RE: Body Hair & Weight Loss (4/28/2009 10:53:58 AM)

I like and advocate low carb way of eating.  But you have to choose one that will motivate you.

Invest in a good cooler and some dry ice for frozen stuff or reg ice if you only make day trips.  When you are home cool on the go meals (i.e., make your own TV dinner types aof healthy food.  You may want to try going lower carb which does have many ways to take stuff on the road.  Its a concept of simply being prepared with healthy so you don't have to eat unhealthy.  Start looking at menus of places you frequent and figuring out what's best to order.  When you do stop for a break, do some fast walking or running for 15-20 minutes or buy a weight set and do some weights on your breaks.   Find break places that offer free use of microwaves and such.    And all in all lol talk to the WOMEN who you know who drive trucks, i bet you there are many who do things to help them not become overweight while driving.

There are many websites around that help you with tips on how to lose weight while eating out.  Its simply going to take some research and motivation to do so -- which will be your hardest.  You probably want to invest in the cooler though that way you can put stuff in it and keep it cold which will allow you more stuff like for low carb, meats and veggies to snack on etc.  ALWAYS eat every 2-4 hours even if its just a little bit.

Some i came across when i typed in How do truck drivers lose weight lol?

Also, if you are a truck driver -- do you unload your own stuff, that should be great exercise.  Try making it more so when you are unloading.   I agree with everyone WATER IS YOUR FRIEND!!!!

Good luck, keep us posted.

OH,

If you're an OTR trucker you're in a tough spot for maintaining good health, or losing weight. I've seen some pretty amazing truckstops that offer all kinds of amenities but I've yet to hear of any with gymnasiums. And typically the food available, while tasty, is far from healthier fare.

Diet is important to overall health and losing weight. You've already gotten some tips. But diet alone won't do it. You need exercise, and oriented to both cardio and resistance.

For resistance a stop into a fitness equipment oriented store would likely turn up some good reading material, and some good portable equipment. I'm thinking of the giant rubber band type things that you could use to set up a very mobile resistance regimine. They'd also fit in your glove box. I expect they will have a book or two on how to set up a pretty complete program for yourself.

For cardio walking or running will likely be your only option. Make sure you have suitable footwear as doing either in crappy shoes leads to other problems.

Good luck to you.

sbf,

Baby carrots aren't really babies. They're adult carrots that have been cut smaller and had the sharp edges and corners smoothed and rounded off.

Popeye,

Water is already "fitness water," and is both cost and calorie free. And by the way how is your routine coming along?

Water is your friend.

Hungry isn't the devil, even if it feels like it is. (now I keep seeing the little furry orange guy from that commercial)

Eat really small meals, just more than three. A handful of raw nuts with a little dried fruit is an awesome power snack.

Walk when ever, where ever you possibly can.

barelynangel -> RE: Body Hair & Weight Loss (4/29/2009 1:29:45 PM)

Many gyms are nationwide or have guest ability at gyms across the country.   The Y is ALL over the US, even in small towns.  Between my home and my work there are three, one in my town and two downtown.  They also usually have a pool.   Also, if you are near HS's many times their track is open outside where you can walk or run on it as long as its not being used.  Do searches in the towns you pass through or stay in and see if they have walking or bike trails, invest in a bike and store it in your truck and park the truck and go for a ride.

The exercise but will take a bit of motivation and want in order to do it outside of a gym, but it is duable.  Many times just walking 3 times a day for 20-30 minutes and over time add HIIT will do wonders.

LaTigresse -- be careful of the dried fruit many times its loaded with sugar.

Shaving seems to work, but can be a hassle. I shave when I feel like it. Epilady thing works wonders too, if you don't mind each hair being yanked out, one by one, at the root. I don't have the will to try it anywhere but on my back and arms. Lucky me I ain't that hairy. I'd be willing to try other areas, but, I am not gonna be doing it to myself.

I'm guessing you do long haul trucking? If so, stay out of the truck stop places, been to a few, not the healthiest way to eat. Bring water, plain water is all I drink, except for occasional tea, or juice, or flavored water. I have lost 10 pounds in a couple months, and hope to lose a few more, not much more though. Pack your lunches before heading out on the road. Pick some leaner cuts of meats from a deli, some bread, make a sandwich. I don't eat mayo, and I prefer mustard or oil and vinegar on sandwiches. Portion control is key though. I have been gradually eating less, though eating a full meal, just not two servings, three servings, but one serving. Cut out lots of snacks, but some snack stuff is good, keeps you full. Smaller portions, less snacks, and more water, and if you get used to eating less, you may find yourself wanting less, and then the weight should come off.

This is how I did it is all.

Laser removal. Wax if you can't keep up with the laser treatments. With repeated waxing, hair that grows back tends to be thinner and sometimes doesn't grow back at all in places.

Resistance bands and running shoes. As others have mentioned diet can help, but if you have a sedentary lifestyle I know first hand that diet isn't enough.

Running can be done almost anywhere, and gets weight off quickly. Think of it as treadmills all around you. Resistance bands can help with tone.

pahunkboy -> RE: Body Hair & Weight Loss (4/30/2009 10:27:56 AM)

Alot can be said about water.

The Japanese drink a large glass of water 20 minutes before they eat the 1st meal of the day.

You dont seem like the gym type. But you could walk around the truck stop.  Park far away from the building.  Go for walks.
OH BTW- mayonnaise is a no no!   Most condiments are.

Some cashew nuts make an OK snack.

Avoid all you can eat buffets.    The stomache wont feel full until x many minutes later.  Chew your food.   I mean SAVOR it.  Look at it- sniff the aroma.  Eat slowly.
I observed a family member one day- and felt mean saying this.  But certainly it can only lead to over eating.

Shaving is a thing for hot weather.  Winter for me no. Summer- ok.

I agree with the others that it does take more time and effort to eat correctly.   But now- consider my brother.  Money is so important that he doesnt have time to see a DR over a personal medical matter.   He might regret that in the worse way later.
