Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (4/16/2006 1:25:30 PM)

We're still on "aegrotat."

TxBadMan -> RE: Word Fight (4/16/2006 4:51:35 PM)

Aegrotat refers to individuals, who due to medical reasons, are unable to perform certain tests ( be it military, school, etc ); and yet are granted a passing or satisfactory grade.

Wulfenite is a lead mineral

"Aecium"

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (4/16/2006 4:57:02 PM)

Yes, "aegrotat" is great.  It means literally "He is ill."  (Edited to add: or "She is ill," of course.)

No idea what "aecium" is.  It sounds like something scientific.  Maybe it's a technical term for smegma?

It's possible to relate the two, but it's a stretch. Think Mycology.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (4/16/2006 7:17:13 PM)

Well, I've looked it up.

Tikkiee -> RE: Word Fight (4/16/2006 7:20:41 PM)

Since I know what it is, I'll stay out of this one. [:)]

Tikkiee -> RE: Word Fight (4/17/2006 5:39:31 AM)

Ok, I'll take it [:)]

"Racemose"

FootQueen -> RE: Word Fight (4/17/2006 8:09:37 AM)

Racemose, has something to do with botany but i can't explain... [&:]

Actually I thought lugubrious was excessively mournful?

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (4/17/2006 12:32:38 PM)

Yes, FQ is right: "lugubrious" is rarely a compliment.

Tikkiee -> RE: Word Fight (4/17/2006 2:28:56 PM)

I'll concede that one. I looked it up and it is defined as extremely mournful, sad, or gloomy

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (4/17/2006 4:04:10 PM)

Shaped like a bunch of grapes?  "Racemus" is a bunch of grapes.

It's actually a 'cluster' on a stem, can refer to flowers, or fruit

"Parataxis"

Lordandmaster -> RE: Word Fight (4/17/2006 7:41:32 PM)

That's when you link clauses together without using conjunctions: e.g., "hang, beg, starve, die in the streets."  (Know the reference?)

Next one..."coelacanth"

kajirared -> RE: Word Fight (4/18/2006 1:40:18 AM)

red replaces the word honor with the following adoration

Easy one here;
