New York Arena Team Offers Vick a Contract

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP)—Michael Vick has a place on a minor league football team if he can get reinstated by the NFL.

The Albany Firebirds, an arenafootball2 franchise, have offered the 28-year-old quarterback a one-year contract at the league standard: $200 a week plus a $50 bonus for a win.

Vick quarterbacked the Atlanta Falcons for six seasons before being convicted of bankrolling an interstate dog fighting business.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has not said if he will lift Vick’s suspension after he completes a 23-month prison sentence. Vick goes from federal prison to home confinement next month.

The Firebirds’ contract offer requires that Vick donate $100,000 to a local humane society.

A call to Vick’s agent was not immediately returned.

I think that Vick is a douchebag, but still.... a requirement to donate ten times annual income to a charity?  WTF is their goal in making an unacceptable offer?

servantforuse -> RE: Oh, How the "Mighty" Have Fallen!! (4/28/2009 8:45:52 PM)

I say everyone deserves a second chance. He is already broke, and has been in prison. Let him get on with his life. In the last 2 months, 3 children in Milwaukee died because their drunk parents fell asleep with them on a couch. Non of them will be charged. Let Michael Vick get his life back together again..

So b/c of a worse tragedy elsewhere we should give the dog killer a break?

The worthless piece of shit is getting a second chance. He landed a construction job straight out of the can. If he works hard, he can make a decent living. Nobody's trying to take that away from him. Nobody's trying to stop him from "getting on with his life". What more than that is he entitled to?

housesub4you -> RE: Oh, How the "Mighty" Have Fallen!! (4/29/2009 3:21:18 AM)

Well, I think the job offer is nothing more than a PR stunt for the team.  I think if he does get reinstated (i do not think he should) someone in the NFL will offer him a job

Since when did pro sports get ethnics?

A marketing move to soften the blow of potentially outraged fans who will speak by not buying tickets. The problem is, he is so far into bankruptcy all he has will be going to the lawyers and bankruptcy courts first.

It is truly amazing to watch the way society picks and chooses those that it makes examples of.

Oh society......you`re so fickle ,so unfair.....[image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m22.gif[/image]   I mean WTF?

MsFlutter -> RE: Oh, How the "Mighty" Have Fallen!! (4/29/2009 6:36:15 AM)

he's working in construction, he's involved in making a documentary with Animal Planet that will allegedly bring him $600K and two (see that? plural - TWO) of his houses were spared in the bankruptcy plan.  I think its a pretty straight line - he killed animals. Make HIM live in a cage and allow someone else to take his chances for him.

I think it started with Jackie Robinson!

Everyone is created ethnic. It's just that some are more ethnic than others.

Why shouldn't he be made an example of? There is no way he did this crime for the money (even then it would be totally unacceptable, but at least a tiny bit understandable...maybe). There was no reason for him to kill innocent animals in the most brutal fashion imaginable other then....oh hell...i can't even come up with a reason.

It seems Vick wants everyone to forgive and forget. Not this animal lover...not in this lifetime.

bamabbwsub -> RE: Oh, How the "Mighty" Have Fallen!! (4/29/2009 5:39:49 PM)

I think part of what outrages so many people about Michael Vick is his "f--- you" attitude.  He was so pompous during both his college and pro football careers, and I think he truly believed that he was as untouchable off the field as he (thought he) was on the field.

Also, here you have a man who was making MILLIONS of dollars per year, and he pissed it away by participating in dogfighting?  (Keep in mind that most of the time, where there's dogfighting, there are drugs...)  How much sense does that make?  So it *really* makes you wonder *why* he actively participated in it, other than for his "rep" or, even more abhorrent, because he enjoyed it.

And a final point:  It is a proven fact that people who abuse animals are more likely to abuse and eventually kill people.  Animals, children, and the elderly are innocents in this world and should be protected from those who knowingly make them suffer.

Hee hee hee...

A little different "falling" than I'm referring to in this post, ElectraGlide, but that was still pretty funny.  [:D]

amoryblane -> RE: Oh, How the "Mighty" Have Fallen!! (4/29/2009 5:55:48 PM)

I saw a poll on ESPN a couple of mornings ago, asking people who would have an easier time repairing their image, Michael Vick or Barry Bonds.  70% said Bonds.  I was fairly flabbergasted.

They're both braying jackasses, and I'm hardly a dues paying member in Barroid's fanclub.  That said, Vick was every bit as big a jerk as Bonds and he gleefully participated in one of the more nauseating, inhumane imaginable spectacles.  And I'm not talking running Atlanta's offense, which was nauseating and inhumane enough most seasons, especially by week 11 or so.  Bonds cheated at a game and probably damaged his own body.  In my mind there is no question as to who committed the lesser evil.

ElectraGlide -> RE: Oh, How the "Mighty" Have Fallen!! (4/29/2009 5:57:46 PM)

If Vic ever did get back in the NFL he would be taunted by fans bad. I could see the Philly fand holding up stuffed dogs already.
