I'm all for mandatory flogging for indecent dress. I think every woman who dresses indecently should be marched down to public square, stripped naked, strung up and giving twenty lashes.

Did I mention that my idea of indecent dress on women is anything that covers more than ten percent of their body?

yeah, I know, I'll never get this legislation passed, but a man can dream can't he?

Anyone who favours the death penalty may as well be in a Monty Python sketch shouting "burn the witch, burn the witch". That is how idiotic the death penalty is in this one's opinion, it hasn't the slightest effect on capital crimes, nor recidivism, it only ameliorates the feeling for vengance.

Well youre obviously wrong abourt recidivism. Not one person who has been executed has repeated his crime. There is considerable disagreement about the deterrent effect.

Actually there is considerable evidence for recidivism by the actual perpertrators of crimes after someone has been convicted of crimes they commited. Brian Dugan comes immediately to mind.

I think you need to read more carefully. If Brian Dugan commits a crime after he's executed, let me know.

i'll bet that executing the D.C. sniper hasn't prevented one other murderer from killing, is that easier? If it has caused one other person to say "hmmm, maybe I'd better not" please post a link.

Ummm... a link to what? Do most people who contemplate murder and decide against it notify the press or put up a blog or something?

I think you need to read at all. Brian Dugan killed 2 women after 2 men were sentenced to death for his first murder.

Umm... and would Brian Dugan have not killed 2 women if those 2 men had gotten a life sentence, or been acquitted?

Actually if there had not been the overly politicized death penalty in Illinois the investigators wouldn't have been under so much pressure to develop a capital case for the new State's Attorney and would have continued actually investigating and they had a description of Dugan, his car and a partial license plate number so it seems likely that Dugan would have been found eventually but instead they tried to railroad 3 other men, Dugan no longer felt that the police were looking for him and he killed again.
