Vendaval -> Proverb on happiness (5/3/2009 12:30:55 PM)
I have been looking through quotes and proverbs for inspiration and found a good one for a Sunday philosophical discussion. Do you think that the nature of happiness is fleeting? Is it possible to have lasting contentment?
"If you want happiness for an hour -- take a nap. If you want happiness for a day -- go fishing. If you want happiness for a month -- get married. If you want happiness for a year -- inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime -- help someone else."

I don't think helping people gives you happiness that lasts a lifetime.

Hiya Vendaval,
Here is one of my favorites on the subject:
Embracing the Way, you become embraced; Breathing gently, you become newborn; Clearing your mind, you become clear; Nurturing your children, you become impartial; Opening your heart, you become accepted; Accepting the world, you embrace the Way.
Bearing and nurturing, Creating but not owning, Giving without demanding, This is harmony.
Lao Tzu

Happiness is a choice of attitude. It just seems to me a lot of people would rather be miserable.
